@Mamaof2: It's $20 per day. Gosh, I really need to do a spreadsheet of all the different options and see what makes sense.

@looch: how much does it cost for a guest pass for the day?
I imagine you could use those once the 7 visits are used

So a couple of things, thanks everyone for your replies!

We have several options in our area and they all have basically the same offerings, which is a family membership with some number of people that has a monthly fee, or a membership for a child that is paid annually. It's not inexpensive in my area, but I suspect that's a cost of living thing. The child memberships are in the $300 range with 7 family passes and the family membership is about $120 per month, with a one time sign up fee of $100.

I really want access to the pool, and I can't figure out how to maximize my money! Do I get a child membership and just use the passes? I would hope we'd go swimming more than 7 times October through May, but maybe I am kidding myself!

Oh wow ours is very expensive compared to everyone else's Y membership! It's $129/month for a family membership and includes the child watch which is open every day of the week. Last summer I was there almost every day while on mat leave. I was tired so I mostly just walked on a treadmill and showered but now we go there on weekends and it's awesome. The boys get to play and we can work out or just sit on a bench and talk for 2 hours! Lol.

We joined this summer, it's $95 a month for a family membership. There are three locations nearby that we can go to. We've been doing swimming lessons this summer and I've brought or LO a few times to swim during the day. And once to swim myself and used the drop-In care. And then the morning sickness hit :silly: So it's not been really worth it monetarily for this summer but long term I think it will be. I might drop down to a single parent membership tho bc it's cheaper and haven't gone all together as a family enough to make it worth the full family.

@Boogs: we have a family membership and it's $92/mo for DH and myself with any number of children.

We do classes for the girls mostly and utilize the childcare which is included as part of the family membership. I need to get back into the groove of using for my own work outs/classes.

We pay $80/month for a household membership. We try to go at least twice a week. Daycare is free while we work out. LO1 takes swim lessons.

We have a family membership that covers all of the YMCAs in our area (there are a bunch, but I have only been to three). So far, I've just used it to work out, and the drop-in childcare for DD (which is free, and the only opportunity she's had to be in that kind of environment, since she's not in school yet). I can see us taking DD to the pool in the winter, and signing her up for dance class if she's interested when she's a little older. Two of the Ys near us also have preschools, so we will look at those when the time comes.

We have a family membership. I use it twice a week for classes (ballet and stroller bootcamp) and can drop my daughter off at the childcare, and sometimes we use the pool on the weekend. My husband uses the gym occasionally but the cost of my two classes outside of the YMCA would be the same cost as the family membership monthly so it works out.

@looch: oh my we love our Y. I go 4 -6 times a week. We use the daycare which is $1. I love the spin classes and pool. When my kids are older they have preschool and so many great camps. And a high ropes course! Our Y is new and we have a really nice community so it's unique. I will never go anywhere else. It's $77 a month for a family.

We do. I take a few classes there and we utilize the child watch during those times (free for family memberships). We also have the kids in swim lessons and have done a few of their preschool-aged child classes. There is also a splash park area at our Y and we can use that for free as well.

My kids' have memberships so they can go swimming and participate in activities like swimming lessons and gymnastics. We will also be using the Y for before/after care once our kids are in elementary school.

When we take the kids to open swim, we can go as their guests for $5/person, though often the fee is waived.

I am looking into memberships and I am not sure what to do! Chances are my husband won't be interested, so it's just my son and I.

If you do belong, what membership do you have and what activities do you do?
