We make trades like eating dinner for something. With morning routine, it's a sticker for an activity completed.

i find i do it the most when i am trying to get us out the door to daycare and work on time. It is usually to brush i teeth, i end up letting him play with my iphone while i brush his teeth. It takes a minute that way, or 10-15 minutes of me chasing him around with a toothbrush with little success and then we are late, sigh.

Yes but I have gotten better at enduring for now. When I have two though it may be my only way to get much done. Still hoping not to do it all the time though.

I do, but I refuse to bribe with Candy. I did it once, and now she asks for it all the time! My only exception to this rule as when I use it for Potty Time when we're potty training. I offer watching YouTube, watching Netflix, yogurt, taking the dog for a walk, playing with my phone.
I try to keep the bribing to a minimum, and instead ignore the tantrums. I refuse to pay attention to the gawkers in public who have apparently never seen a two year old before.

It has become quite effective over the past few weeks, so yes I have been doing it more than I probably should.

Totally! I don't know a single parent who hasn't. ;) Sometimes it's just necessary to get through a few minutes without hearing them whine or cry. I am finding bribing not being as effective now that my oldest is older... He is starting to catch on and use it to get "treats" now. So I'm not doing it with him anymore...

Although there are times I bribe, I try to do it in advance, with setting expectations (if you stay in the cart the whole time, then XYZ), rather than when he starts to kick off. If he's already starting to misbehave, I won't bribe at that point.

I definitely don't do it all the time, though. If we run 4 or 5 errands, I know he'll need the extra motivation by the last one, so I will use it then. If we're just running to one store, I just talk to him about how he will behave, make sure he's full, and try to make the trip fun.

If he does start to misbehave, usually getting down on his level and talking to him about what's not acceptable is enough to get him back on track. I also choose my battles, and try not to do errands in too much of a rush, so that if he wants to spend a minute playing with the stuffed animals, I don't feel like I have to pull him away right away. Obviously, that's not always realistic, but I do my best!

Yes, a few times a week.

Finish your broccoli and you can have apples or whatever dessert we are eating that night.

LO had a meltdown at the mall last week and I tried bribing her with a lollipop. She held it but continued to cry & scream....bribe fail! :-(

I'll be the first to admit I bribe my LO. I know it's a terrible habit but sometimes I've got to do it to keep my sanity. She is in her tantrum phase and if I can bribe her with something to keep her calm while I get through the grocery store or a doctors appointment, I'll do it. It's usually something simple like a piece of gum, a treat or if we are at Target, popcorn!

Do you bribe your LO? What do you bribe them with? If you don't bribe them, share your secret to getting through errands/other tasks without a huge meltdown!
