@sandy: It's weird because I've never even been on medication for my thyroid because I've fluctuated between hyper and hypo. It's been stable for a while now, but my doctor is very conservative so she's keen on lots of testing during the first trimester. Hopefully I won't have to do it every 2 weeks through the whole pregnancy! That's interesting about fluctuations after birth. I'll have to remember to get checked after!

Always. And they last for at least 2 weeks. With all the blood work I've had done over the past 7 weeks, I'm starting to look like a heroin addict.

I got my blood drawn for the first time in ages a few weeks ago, and I didn't bruise at all. I'm assuming that's partially because of me and partially because of the tech.

I normally do, except every time I've had blood drawn at my OB's office. The lab tech that does it is really good.

usually =( i have to have blood drawn fairly frequently, sometimes i still have the old bruise! i was super stupid last time and took my blood pressure with one of those machines about an hour after, it was freaky! needless to say, it popped the vein open again and it was extremely painful.

Yes but it's usually not too bad of a bruise.

Not always but a lot of the time. And if they have to try multiple times (I have small veins) then the bruising is super bad.

@JerricaBenton: I have graves disease (was very hyperthyroid and had my thyroid ablated with radioactive iodine twice so now I'm hypothyroid) but I only had to get my thyroid checked maybe 3-4 times total during my pregnancy. That's crazy you have to get it done once every two weeks..so sorry! My thyroid levels were so crazy after I gave birth and I had to go get my blood drawn several times afterwards and have my thyroid supplement adjusted.

Once in a while. To avoid bruises, apply pressure after they pull the needle out. Try to apply for at least 5 minutes. Also, you can put ice on a bruise to help break it up if it's still within a day or so.

I have fluctuating thyroid levels so I've been getting labwork done about every two weeks to make sure it's stable during pregnancy. I only bruise when the phlebotomist does a bad job. I can always tell the second the needle goes in. It sucks because some of them are consistently bad but I don't feel like I can say 'oh i'll wait for that lady over there' so I put up with the bruises.
