@mrsjyw: If my husband answered on my behalf he would resoundingly say yes. Sadly DS's favorites include: spatulas, wooden spoons, pots/pans, and snapware.

We have so many toys. We have gotten a lot of gifts and hand me downs. It makes me crazy how much the kids have, but I just try to keep it organized and have like a bookcase of toys & books and then one or two big toys in each main room. As a byproduct, they are really great at playing independently :)

We haven't bough much at all, most of the ones we have are hand me downs or gifts. We have two baskets and one shelf in the living room, the play kitchen, and more in his room. We have a lot more outside, which is a little excessive, but he loves it!

We have a large stash of toys, but in reality we have bought very few of those! Most were gifts or hand-me-down for her cousin who is "over" them. (my sister has a shopping problem when it comes to her kids haha!)

We buy him small toys we can travel with. My parents on the other hand, buy him a combo of large and small. Everyone is asking what to get him for his birthday and just insist on books or clothes because this kid has a lot of toys. However sometimes I can be suckered into buying him a neat one. Recently I bought him a "touch screen phone", He loves that thing. It looks a little like mommy and daddy's phone so he gets excited.

I stocked and set-up his entire playroom which is a pretty large, filled room......and it still doesn't even come close to the amount of toys that the grandparents buy.
Most his toys are gifts from them.

Almost 9 months, and I have yet to buy a toy. It's getting difficult now though... she was surviving fine on gifted baby toys (and a couple hand-me-down toys), but they're too simple for her, and she is way bored with them. We've been making due with random 'toys' (spatulas, a 'drum' from her formula container, drum sticks, kitchen funnels), but she's outgrowing those too. I can't wait for Christmas and her birthday so I can have an excuse to buy her some new toys!

We have a play room at our house that has a bin of random toys that have been building up, an easal, a small piano and play kitchen and some ride on toys. Down stairs we have a closet full of puzzles, duplo's, blocks, ride on toys and a zany zoo + small basket of toys. At my parents house, we took our toys over there for a play room. They have a train table, a doll house, a small kitchen, a cozy coupe, some more ride on toys and a lot of little people toys.

But that's almost 5 years worth of a stash. I now buy books and puzzles only.

I buy a lot of toys (majority of them non-electronic). I buy wooden and plastic toys and rotate them often. I think toys are really important to development. Play is how they learn! I avoid electronic toys because they're not really "playing" them. They're just pushing buttons and looking for a response. Open ended toys are great and I definitely don't hold back when it comes to buying these types of toys. And books!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Me too!

I always buy stuff on sale ... if it's a great deal, I'll buy it and save it for a rainy day :) She's got a huuuuuge collection... people often comment that it looks like a daycare or something.

We have a lot of toys, but I consider them an investment. If I can find a good deal, I will stock up and slowly introduce them when DS is ready. Plus I get to use them for two kids. Definitely worth it.

I buy a lot of toys and have no qualms spending money on them if I think they are good quality and have a long shelf life. We have a good stash and while DD often forgets about things or loses interest, sure enough, within the month she'll rediscover something and it'll become her new favourite thing all over again.

We have one basket of little things. Most she has out grown. The piano from her activity mat and an exersaucer. I ordered her a walker that will get here tomorrow. That is all. I want to buy her more, cause I think she is bored but I know she is going to get so many for Christmas in 2 months. I have a music table for her, but I am trying to hold off and save it for Christmas as planned.

We don't buy a ton of toys, but I feel like we have a fair amount. I think more than half of our toys were gifted.

We have one ikea shelf that is the designated toy shelf in addition to a play kitchen, a rocking moose and a large box of wooden trains/tracks. I wish we had less!

I buy new things regularly, because what he is into changes so frequently and often, he masters something and isn't interested in it anymore.

Lately, he's into transporation items, like trains, cars, bulldozers, etc, so we have a lot of different kinds of things.

DS gets bored with toys pretty quickly, so we really haven't bought him any new ones recently. Now that it's getting colder outside, I think we'll need to buy some new ones or put toys on rotation to keep them interesting :P (He's almost 10.5 months)... We've been able to keep most of his toys in one bin that goes into one of the wooden cube holders. And then he has a walker, ride on toy, and music table.

How big is your stash of toys?
