When I babysat growing up, no one specifically bought me snacks but I was always given free reign to eat whatever I thought looked good in their kitchen.

My parents have a snack cupboard and they always told babysitters to help themselves and not to be shy. They also showed them where the pop was kept in the garage.

i don't buy specific things just for the babysitter, but i always emphasize that they can take whatever they want. I find if we are more specific with them, then they are more likely to take. Like DH got out the microwave popcorn and practically told her to make it after LO was in bed and she did, lol.

Yep! I ask what they would like for dinner and favorite snacks, family, friends, or paying someone.

I haven't hired a non family babysitter (i guess unpaid family isn't hired lol) but the majority of people I sat for always asked me in advance what I wanted & stocked up. It was so appreciated. Especially because one of those families I would sit the whole weekend for their 4 kids!

No experience as the one hiring the sitter but I babysat a TON back in the day and the unwritten rule that you get to eat the snacks was one of the best parts :)

We are having our first non-family babysitter tonight (I babysat this sitter myself for over a decade...hard to believe the tables have turned!)

Her parents were always really really good to me and I loved when they left me snacks, so I bought some for our sitter tonight. Dh thinks I'm nuts and I look over eager LOL. Anyone else leave snacks for the sitter?
