I buy books no problem or new art supplies if necessary. I try not to feel bad about it because 1) I do not believe in giving her new toys all at once - which means I hide her Xmas toys after she opens them and saves it for another day (perfect for those occasions that require extra bribing 2) now that she's older, I want to play with her too! I think of toys as activities of "quiet time" or play time together. When she was showing signs of liking miniature imaginative play, I bought her first Sylvanian family (since I've been waiting for this. lol). It sounds like a common theme is that, especially in the first few years, it can make sense to bring home new things as our kids reach new developmental milestones. Also, parents with fall and winter babies (myself included) have a harder time waiting for holidays.</p> <p>I still plan to keep our toy collection reasonably small, and I'll do what I can to keep my son from feeling entitled to presents all the time.
