C got dress up clothes for her 2nd bday and REALLY got into them. She loves Disney princesses and faries, and always wants a dress on.

She also has super hero clothes. She thinks she's bat girl.

Does a Superwoman onesie count? I love all things comic book and superhero related, so she'll probably get a fair few superhero clothes. And I have no problems with princess stuff as long as there's a mix of things. I may try to steer her toward the spunkier princesses and get her a Princess Merida outfit rather than, say, Ariel stuff.

They both have superman logo tshirts. They look so cute when they wear them together. The princess stuff I don't like so I've been staying away. My daughter likes whatever my son likes anyway so so far, she hasn't asked for anything princess. She loves cats though and is into hello kitty.

We don't have any yet, because she hasn't shown an interest (she sat through 10 minutes of Cinderella and The Little Mermaid before getting bored). Once she's into it, though, I will totally get her princess/superhero stuff as long as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg!

I have no issues with licensed characters and I feel that's a big part of being a kid/toddler. My gripe is that $20 for a t-shirt is ridiculous, but that's what some baby clothes cost already (Baby Gap, Tea, etc.) and I refuse to spend money on those, too.

We buy our daughter all kinds of shirts. She has: Star Wars, Supergirl, Spiderman, Ghostbusters, Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins, Woody & Jessie, Batman, Batgirl, etc.

We're a very nerdy bunch 'round here. We have no issue whatsoever buying her the more princessy type shirts (though I try to stay away from the older princesses like Cinderella and the like).

At this age I'd rather she watch Sofia the First, as she's a younger princess.. she doesn't need to watch shows or movies that focus so much on gender stereotypes and having a wedding be the main goal of a persons life. I like Sofia the First because she reinforces that girls can do anything and be anything. I'm also a BIG fan of Rapunzel and Anna and Elsa because of the fact that their movies are newer and more modern and they don't subscribe to the oooooold rules about princesses needing a man.

RANT OVER.

In regards to clothing, I'm going to try to keep licensed characters to underwear, socks, pajamas only.

Dress up clothes though, whatever you want!! I don't have any problem with my daughter liking princesses.

I've found that the superhero/princess stage starts at around age 3 and peaks around age 4! Perhaps it has to do with preschool and their peers?

My 2.5 yo started early with the princess stuff though because of her older sister... Oh and perhaps our Disneyland annual pass has something to do with it too, haha. But I know it's a phase... My eldest is slowly phasing out interest (just turned 6 yo).

They usually wear Disney shirts when we are at Disneyland, but not too much anywhere else. As for costumes, usually just at home sometimes, during playdates, and on Halloween. They don't dress like princesses at the grocery or anything! Sometimes my youngest wants to wear tutus and fairy wings on an average day in public, and I'm okay with it! She jumps around and says, "I'm a fairy" or "I can fly!". I see it as part of the imaginative play stage.

C has one Batman shirt because her and her little BFF were Batman and Robin for Halloween last year.

Other than that, not really. I would if she asked though. I have no problems with it. I think that wardrobe/costumes are a form of self-expression. I don't want to reinforce the "princess" mentality, but I also dont want her to feel like it's a bad thing if she legitimately likes princesses (which she already does. Oi.)

We tried to avoid the princess stuff, but you can't control what's in other peoples homes. What I mean is she was all rough and tumble until she went to the baby-sitters, then it was all princess, tinkerbell, and movies  It took a while for me to figure out where she learned to ask for all that, she's still a rough and tumble girl, but prefers to get dirty in her princess shoes ;)

So we'll be looking for Disney princess dresses at garage sales this summer because as much as she loves them
I'm not ready to bust out $48 a dress! I don't buy her character clothing though, contemplating some Minnie Mouse pj's but no actual clothes.

DD (29 months) has a Spider-Man shirt because it's DH's favorite. She knows what superheroes are, and occasionally wants me to tie a blanket "cape" on her, but it's not a constant interest. No princess stuff yet, though she does know what a princess is. We're trying to avoid the "princess culture," but if she asks for princess stuff in the future, we'll get her some in moderation.

Nope to either. We make a point to not direct our LOs to any one character/character type. However BIL hasn't bought DD a gift that isn't princess since she was born; we don't make a big deal about the things being princess and so far no obsessions.

Charlie is really into superheroes... pretty much all of them, but he likes Superman best right now. I think all boys just have a superhero gene. I have resisted buying him superhero clothes (he did receive a Superman shirt as a gift and he's obsessed with it) because it's easier not to have debates about what to wear when they just have plain clothes. ;)

Olive has no idea what a princess is yet since she only plays with Charlie's toys, but she is super duper into her baby dolls lately. I don't plan on buying her any princess clothes, but maybe she will ask for them one day.

Do you buy your LO superhero/princess clothes? Do they want to wear them constantly?
