I care more about the message as well! No one compares their thank you cards with someone else's and this is coming from a paper person.

I really don't care about the card as much as I do about what's inside. As much as I like pretty things, it kind of irritates me when I feel like someone put more thought into choosing design-y cards than conveying meaning or maintaining a relationship.

I really don't care and usually throw them out as soon as I receive/read them. So I always buy the cheapo ones to send out.

Thanks ladies for all the convincing that it's the message and thought that counts!

@me0wmeeh: That sounds like such a nice after gift!

@Amelieisme: I always keep the fancy cards too seems like such a waste to toss them. I'm not from the South, but I like the etiquette.

@adnama: Oh I LOVEthe flower idea! I think that mightbe the perfect boost to add to my hostess gifts! Orchids from Trader Joe's! Thanks for the tip!

@Boogs: No we don't have a Dollar Tree near us, but I think I'll check out some stamps today. I like handmade ones sometimes.

Thanks again for all the assurances ladies!

I am a little strange, but I feel a little guilty when I receive a really nice card. Like, "should I keep this because it is so nice?" and I feel bad about the waste of resources in just throwing it away (all that nice beading! the cute little pin!) BUT I can't stand clutter so they usually get trashed :(

That said, I'd prefer a stamped card any day. Its the message that counts. I'm from the South and we usually buy a Thank You gift for the hosteses at the shower and then send a thank you card to thank them for the gift they gave and reiterate the thank you for hosting the shower.

I could care less if my thank you card was a piece of construction paper folded in half, it's really the thought of even giving one, and the message inside.

Agree that there's nothing wrong with packaged cards--I have never thought about card quality! As long as you actually write a thank you note, that's what counts. And a lot of people throw them away anyhow.

I don't care about the card, I'd rather a nice message! I made sure to do that for all of my hostesses, the cards weren't anything too special. I gave them those the day of the shower, each with a little potted flower.

After the shower I sent them another card thanking them for the gift, and again for the shower.

I think it's the message that counts!

Another one who doesn't care about the quality of the card, but cares very much about receiving a thank you. I usually get some fairly inexpensive ones at Target. The quality is often pretty great for not a lot of money!

I didn't get a chance to write thank you cards for my hostesses or guests, LO came 3 weeks early, ( I really should have had my shower earlier).

I personally don't really care to write or receive thank you cards. No matter how nice they are, they always end up in the trash.

So, to thanks my hostesses and guests from the shower, post baby, I got a pic of LO printed from minted.com/baked an assortment of cookies (I ordered really cute muslim bags with the words "cookies" printed on them) and mailed them out as my thank you gifts/cards.

I don't care about thank you cards at all--I don't even really care about the message inside. I generally barely skim it before I toss it in the trash. I realize that the poor person was sitting there, grinding out dozens or even hundreds of thank you cards (weddings), and personally, if I could, I would "opt out" and save them the hassle.

I'm either find with 1) not getting a thank you card at all or 2) a quick text, like, "Love the nipple balm and onesie!!".

Especially if I was there in person (like at a shower), and I know they recieved it and liked it. But I know that's just me!

@shopaholic: I think the fact that you're hand writing a card is the most important thing to people and they will be happy to hear how appreciative you are. :)

Do you happen to have a dollar tree near you? One of my local ones actually has some really great semi-papyrus style cards for only a dollar!

To be completely honest, I am always aghast at how much trimmings cost because it usually gets thrown away! :-( The card is $3-4, gift bag is $3-5, tissue paper, ribbon, etc.

I normally like those nice greeting cards like Papyrus ($4-7 each) and would think that's appropriate for our baby shower hostesses. However, with 2 showers and a total of 7 hostesses this weekend, I tallied up the cost on cards alone would be close to $40!

I feel kind of bad giving them those general gift/note Thank You cards (like the kind that come in a set of 6 or 8), but it's a lot more economical! What do YOU think of the Thank You cards you receive? Do you care what kind and how nice they are? I'm almost thinking about going to Paper Source for a nice "Thank You" stamp and DIY-ing some nice TY cards - or is that even cheesier?

I know for sure I still have to buy 2 of the "nice" cards for the hostesses offering their houses for the showers.
