@babynumber1: Yeah, that's so annoying! My husband and I don't have kids yet, but whenever our nephew is over his parents never pick up the (cat)toys and candles and wii remotes and anything else their toddler has thrown around. It's fine, I don't mind picking it up, it would just be nice to have them offer to do it since he did it all by himself.

We always say "it's time to sing the clean up song" and then they pick them up/ I usually organize them later, but I think it's a good habit for kids to get in to pick up after themselves.

I take my cues from the host family. If the parents is like, walking us to the door it would be awkward to I insist to stay and help clean up. If the host and kids are cleaning up, I would help.

At home, I generally prefer for guests to leave and let me do it-- I feel like it's one of the jobs of hosting. But if they clean up as they go, that's fine.

I used to have one friend that would insist on going around picking up stray cups and sets and throwing them (at adult parties), but honestly it puts a damper on the fun for the people who aren't leaving yet--like it signals to them it's time to go and I'm like no! She's just cleaning! You can stay!

I offer to help when we are at someone's house. When people are here, it really doesn't bother me that they leave without tidying up. It's easier (for the near freak inside of me) just to put things away after everyone is gone and it is calm again.

I try to do it after but my friends insist on doing it before they leave even though I protest.

I always help with clean up when I'm visiting, and when I have kids here we do clean up together. I make it a habit of getting the kids to help clean up because I can't tolerate other kids throwing all the toys around when mine doesn't do it.

We host my nieces and nephew a lot and they never clean up. It annoys me that my sister doesn't encourage it, so I try to get them to at the end. At others houses I always make LO clean up. It really spends on how many kids. If more than 5 I at least get LO to clean up what I know she got out.

We really stress cleaning up toys at others houses in our family.

After.

I usually volunteer to clean, but most parents decline. I typically decline, as well... there's a certain way our toys are organized and it's just easier and quicker if we do it alone.

I always offer to help other parents pick up, though they usually decline. I get the kids to participate in picking up all their stuff before the end of a playdate, though.

Was just pondering this after we hosted a playdate this morning. When we visit someone's house, we usually clean up before we leave. When people visit us, they usually leave and then we clean it up later. I don't mind picking up, but we should probably be more consistent for the kids' sake.
