I don't, because people are always telling me how "huge" D is, and it does kind of bother me. I'm sure they mean it in a nice way, not in a "what a fatty" kind of way, but it still bugs me.

i try not to, especially because i know some mothers are sensitive to it for various reasons. everyone constantly tells us how big and chunky our LO is and they cant get over that she is only 5 months, but they say it in a "wow, she's a healthy girl" kind of way, not a "she needs to go on a diet, what do you feed her??" kind of way.

I used to, before having my own.

Now, I know how personal it can feel when people comment on your baby! So, I never make any comment besides how precious and adorable the baby is :)

I guess I would comment if the baby was long/tall - that's never a bad thing, right?

Hmmm...I had to think about this one. I definitely commented on the size of my friend's baby who came out over 10 pounds and a full set of hair. He already looked like he was three months!

If there was a smaller baby, I can imagine saying he was cute or a little peanut.

But basically I stick to oohing and ahhing over the cuteness factor.

I might comment on a "big" baby if it's a friend. I have a big'un, and I love his chunky legs! It doesn't offend me at all for people to comment on how big he is. I take it as a compliment that I'm doing a good job bf'ing him. I'd never comment on a small baby, though, bc I've had some friends with babies with weight problems, and I know that's really stressful.

I'd get comments from my side of the family. They always said she's a big girl. My uncle even called her "solid". Haha! I'm not offended at all. But the thing is, she's not really big. Her numbers are just average. She does have big legs, so maybe it's just her proportions.

Since she's been crawling, she's really slimmed down :( I'm a little afraid to see her numbers during her next check-up.

Same as @Rubies! I don't think there's a right size for a baby. Big or little babies are cute. When I comment on a baby's size it's only as a descriptive compliment on cuteness!

@Running Elley: I love his rolls! How can I not comment on them?! They're so sweet! I'll be totally bummed if Sadie doesn't chunk up.

Although it doesn't offend me it annoys me when people make these kind of comments.. people will ask "how old is she again?" and when I say "x months" they'll say "really? she's big!" At her last appointment she was 90th percentile for height and 71/72 for weight, so she's not small, but I always think... as IF you know the average size of babies by months/weeks!

I therefore don't comment on the size of babies unless maybe if it's birth weight.

I get it all the time, but it's true. My baby is off the charts in weight and in 90+% for height and head. That is expected because my husband is built the same. I only got offended when someone said he needed a diet.

I sort of do, but not in the way you're talking about I don't think. I tend to say generically "Oh my god, he's so big", as in, "Wow, he looks so big to me b/c he's 6 months older than my daughter." I usually don't comment on whether I think a particular baby is big or small for their age b/c I know it annoys people (including myself).

No, but only because I'm sensitive about comments on DS7's size. He's 42 lbs and 48 in, and I DESPISE people commenting on how small he is and asking what we feed him. Umm, he eats like a horse and is extremely active with tons of energy so I'm not concerned with his weight and neither is his doctor.

I used to until I had kids. Never in a negative way! Just like in a stunned way like, "wow, what a tall 3 year year old" or something.
MY husband told one of our relative that her 3m old was bigger than our 6m old and she didn't take it well. He didn't mean FAT he meant like, her child was more aware, active and developed than ours. He meant it as a compliment but she just didn't get it. I told him he can't ever win so never to do that again!

I don't because I know parents can be sensitive. DD is tall and slim (75% for height and under 20% for weight) and I get a lot of comments on how small she is, followed by "what do you feed her? you should give her x, y, and z!". It gets me on the defense because I feel like I'm being judged for starving her when in fact I think I feed her a very well rounded diet, but I usually just smile and make a comment that she's just like her father. I'm better with it now than when she was younger.

I'm trying to get better about this. Last week I was at my lactation support group and there was a mama there with an adorable 3 week old. I smiled and said something like, oh, he's so little! then went and sat down ...... only to find out she's super stressed because he's not gaining weight, has super bad reflux, etc. I felt so bad! I just meant that he looked like a newborn, but she probably thought I was commenting on his weight. Lesson learned!
