I guess I secretly do, but definitely agree with @Red's use of my inner voice when I do so. I don't do it for competitive purposes but just to get an Idea of how different or similar she is progressing. I have many friends with babies around her age so there are lots of subjects.

My parents never ever compared us to other people's kids except when other parents insisted on having us stand shoulder to shoulder to see who was taller. Ugh, hated that. But we would always win!

My LO hasn't arrived yet but I think I will always compare her to babies around her age, etc.

I think it's only normal to compare. I do it, but not in a competitive manner, but rather to know where Mavrick stands. ON the talking front it will take him much longer because I speak to him in English and Marc in French. But everything else (except eating - he's a porker, since 3 months) he's followed the general growth of kids his age.

It's human nature to compare so I have given myself full permission to do so :). I just make sure to temper it with realistic expectations and to use my "inside" voice when I do gloat, lol. Luckily, the mommy friends I have are all very supportive (in other words, they only gloat at home like I do) so no drama there.

I keep telling myself not to compare my baby to other babies, and in my heart I just want her to hit her milestones at her own pace... but I can't help but panic a little when I see babies who are younger than her able to do things she can't. There are things that she was able to do surprisingly early though (like roll over at 3 months), while there are some things that are a little delayed (like sitting up on her own). I try to remind myself that babies all have different paces, and that they'll all eventually be able to do the same things in the end so there's no sense in stressing too much about it.

I just started my 6-month old on solids, so eating habits is yet another thing I'll probably end up comparing in the back of my head, too!

Charlie has been a pretty average baby in terms of hitting all his milestones, so I think I've been good about not comparing him to other babies too much.

Moreso than milestones, I get jealous of moms with babies who eat well because feeding Charlie is the most stressful part of taking care of him!

I've been lucky not to have friends that think their babies are geniuses as some parents tend to do. But they do think their babies are the cutest babies in the whole wide world. ;-)

Do you find it difficult not to compare your babies to others?
