This was a problem for us too, and my solution was trying to figure out a way for him to associate sitting down in a chair with eating. While not the best solution, he would watch Sesame Street at the dinner table. Later we were able to drop that cold turkey and let him fully engage in his meal using his hands and utensils. Now he knows that he has to sit down to eat. It takes a while for kids to adjust.

Ugh - we've been doing this, too. I also don't want it to become a habit. Curious to see other responses...

Lately, LO haaates being in the high chair. After a while she just won't eat anything, so i'll take her out and let her play on the floor. Concerned that she didn't eat a lot, i'll feed her as she plays and she'll happily open her mouth. This is NOT a habit i want to create, but at the same time i want to make sure that she eats enough.

Does anyone else do this? Is this a phase, or is it just going to get worse if i continue doing this?
