I cook for my parents fairly often. My in-laws are on the opposite coast but I cook for them when they visit us. My MIL won't let me cook for them when we visit them though.

I have my mom over for dinner pretty regularly - I like cooking and eating with her!

We never have Dh's parents over for dinner so I don't have to worry about cooking for them.

We usually go out to eat with my parents.

RANT: DH's mom is not a fan of our cooking, it's not good enough for her. A few weeks ago, she called DH at 5:30PM as we were on our way home after work. She mentioned that she was bored and wanted to bring our 5 yr old nephew over to our place for dinner. He said ok (while I glared at him, haha).

So DH and I scrambled to put together 3 decent dishes at the last minute. We made roasted cauliflower, beer battered shrimp, and a Chinese ground pork dish... and then when she arrived, she brought a vegetable dish, and proceeded to ONLY eat her own vegetables!! She took one bite of each of our dishes and then ate her own food. And our nephew who is normally a big eater, barely ate a few bites. When I asked him why he wasn't hungry, it was because grandma gave him THREE egg tarts (Chinese dessert) before they came. WTH. I was sooo pissed, and told DH that next time, we're just going to order take out! This still makes me mad, haha!

I cook for my inlaws once a month when they come to watch DD and every now and then when something else comes up. I cook for my parents when they visit us because they usually stay at our place.

Yeah, I cook for my parents every other week. Last night I did a Mexican meal and always try to do something a little better than ordinary. I've only cooked for my in-laws once, I think...I don't really know what they like so I tend to leave it to Dh.

I do on occasion, but only when they're staying with us (they live a 3 hr flight away). It's hard because we eat different things - and they're more meat and potatoes than we are. It's tricky to come up with meals that I know how to make and that they'll eat!

I usually cook maybe 1 dinner and maybe a special breakfast when my inlaws visit. Generally, my MIL cooks even when she visits us--my husband says that is how she shows love and feels needed. Plus he just likes to eat her cooking.

Not often and usually it is pretty simple when we do- like grill chicken and corn and make a salad or two. It doesn't really bother me but I do put forth a bit more effort than I do for a typical weeknight dinner.

Yup, we're the cooks in the family. Even when they were out of town and we visit them we cook. When we go visit my family my mom usually cooks or we go out to dinner because i miss all the good NYC food! :P But when my family comes to visit we always make sure to cook at least one big meal for my family.

My mom always cooks for us but my in-laws aren't big cooks and eat out all the time, so cooking for them makes me look like a total rock star! So I really enjoy trying to cook dinner at least once while we visit and if its a holiday, I take charge of the family potluck meal coordination.

Yep, at least every other week. My parents live 10 minutes away and every week we have a family dinner night and it alternates between them cooking and me cooking.

I have, but it's not a normal occurrence. My mom and MIL usually do the cooking (we usually go to their house) or we go out to eat as a big family.

Like you, my parents and in laws live hours away from us so when we visit them, they cook! When they visit us, we take them out. My MIL and my dad are awesome cooks, there's no way I'd cook for them!! But when my mom stays with us for weeks at a time, I'll cook for her. she doesn't cook .

My mom hates cooking, so if I'm over there during the week, I usually cook. Or she'll bring ingredients to my house and I will cook/bake while she plays with LO.

My parents and in laws live a plane ride away and we always travel home. So they usually cook for us. I would be a bit intimidated if I had to cook dinner for them. When they visit, I'm planning on going out to dinner.

I'm not talking about making a side dish and bringing it over. I can do that, but a whole meal? Maybe it's because they live so far away that I'm not used to it cooking for them.
