Aww pupcake. I don't correct the cute ones. My favorites these days are school = cools (I had fun at cools today!) lemonade = lemon ape, kangaroo = kanga goo roo

ketchup/syrup/icing are all interchangeable in his mind, I do keep correcting those..

Sometimes we do. Sometimes we just make sure that we say the same word correctly in our own language... and then some of her mispronouncements are so adorable that we can't help but to say them the same way that DD does. We really struggle with "bananas" --> "minnas" and "blanket" --> "nappie".

I do with DS now at 4 (almost 5) but when he was 2, there were a few really cute phrases that we let slide because we selfishly loved them too much lol.

My nephew has always said "mook!" Instead of "look"... Except he's now 5 1/2 and still says it, and his 3 yr old sister has caught on to saying "mook" too! I admit, it was kinda cute (before) but I don't want kids to make fun of him at school!

I repeat it with the correct word. So - "Sank ya!" I'll reply, "Yes Vivi, you said THANK YOU! Good job!" That way she hears it correctly but she doesn't feel criticized. She has plenty of time to get it right.

@Danizaur: That is heartbreaking!

LO is just learning to talk so I don't correct but I do keep repeating the right way. When he calls an avocado "akakaka" I just say, "Yes! That's an avocado!" He'll get it eventually.

@cheesetomywhine: I think that's great!! I plan to do that with my kids. Even now I'm careful to avoid too much baby talk with my 7 week old. But it's hard sometimes! ;)

I feel sad for the poor guy. I don't know why his parents thought that would be beneficial to him. :(

@Danizaur: Aw poor guy! I don't make R say the words correctly, I just assume if she hears the correct way eventually she will say it right :happy: Silly pronunciations are the cutest!

LO isn't talking but my sister's BIL and SIL didn't let their son say words if he didn't pronounce them right. He used to call my sister by a funny version of her name when he was just learning how to talk and they didn't let him say it if he didn't say her name right. Now he's almost 3 and won't say her name at all. That's not even correcting him.

I think that's a little over the top. Poor kid.

I do. DH not so much. She calls herself Ra-Ra and he will call her that as well instead of the correct pronunciation of her nickname lol. I should add he does use her correct name as well but not all the time. Hm now that I think of it he uses her pronunciation for a few things because he thinks they sound cute!

ETA- pupcakes is adorable!
