I kept a list of his words like @honeybee until his language exploded and it became impossible.

@Honeybee: @autumnlove: Thank you! This is what I feel is more normal lol. Now I don't think I'm crazy for thinking the 100's of word counting seems odd.

I counted with DD until she got up to 20/25 words. Then, to be honest, I just lost track. I never understood how parents remember hundreds of words that their kids can say? Do they write them all down? My memory got worse after #2, so I imagine I'll lose track even earlier with DS, lol. Poor kid!

I find some statements elsewhere where people say their 18 month old can "say 300 words, count to 100, read a book and say the entire alphabet" to be a little...well...exaggerated. These posts don't seem real to me (sure there are exceptions, but the number of such statements is overwhelming) and they don't seem to happen on HB. I was just wondering if you ladies actually count words?

I never was really one to do this, but I have counted on occasion just to make sure LO meets the recommended number of words at a given age, then I stop counting, even if he knows more. I also have a hard time not counting a word a word unless it is said clearly and used correctly each time.
