I've watched that show several times and I'm amazed. I'd love to coupon but I'm afraid it would take up too much time.

We don't have coupons and things rarely go on sale. If they do, it isn't stock up worthy like you see in the US. To save money, we buy stuff in Germany, to take advantage of the currency arbitrage and VAT rebates. It's a pain because we have to consider gas costs as well, the border is about an hour away.

@MaisyMay: We do Safeway online too.
I 'speed coupon' a few minutes a week. I read the ads as we go in the store and from the Midweek newspaper. Plus I get the Living Social/Hot Buys/2 for 1 daily emails. But that's it. I like to just 'not shop' as my way of saving money. I hope that's not my denial mechanism.

I would but since LO is allergic to so many things, we don't eat a lot of processed foods so it's not worth the time to coupon for the 1 or 2 items that I might buy a month.

Plus, my sister is an extreme couponer and she helps me buy things that she knows I'll use, like diapers, wipes, and certain toiletries.

Just wish there were coupons for milk, eggs and meat.LOL

We don't coupon. The grocery stores around us don't double or triple coupons and it's usually just cheaper to buy the generic store brand even with a coupon. Plus we don't eat all the boxed/processed junk that the people on extreme couponing buy.

I'll keep my eyes open for Bjs coupons for diapers once LO is here, but other than that coupons are not very useful to us. Shampoo/conditioner does go bad, so I wouldn't want to buy 100 bottles of that stuff either.

We don't really do coupons here. If something is reduced, it's reduced - you don't need a coupon.

I have seen the coupon show. Those people are crazy! Three things annoy me:
1. When they clear the shelves of an item - that's just rude to other shoppers.
2. They buy all this crap they don't need/use/want - so wasteful.
3. They never know exactly what they will have to pay. This really gets me. You know the prices, you know how many coupons you have, work it out exactly. Sorry, Maths teacher here. If there is 1 thing I can't stand it is sloppy calculations! he he.

I would also respect the coupon crazies more if they gave the crap they buy to a charity. I saw a woman last week who bought a whole lot of cat food. Doesn't have a cat. Instead of giving it to the RSPCA or a shelter she added it to her stockpile. What the? Was she planning on eating it ??

ok, vent over. Feel better now.

Not to the extent of KCL but yes I do. We clip coupons every Sunday morning. I print ones I use online. I always google for coupons before online shopping. I always shop through Ebates to get additional % back.
I am known as coupon queen!!! hahaha.

I use coupons at Safeway. Most of the times I save at least 30%, usually through paper coupons, just-for-you online coupons, and the club cards. A few weeks ago we went to a new Safeway and got $148 worth of groceries for $71, plus we had gas rewards so that the gas went from $3.69 to $3.09. It was a very successful shopping day.

@mrsjyw: yes that's the reason we don't stockpile... the thing that drives me crazy about that show is things like 1000 tubes of toothpaste. Unless you're donating to a charity that can distribute and handle that kind of volume of one item, I see it as a waste, even if it's "free". The time and energy to go get it is not free, and the space it takes up your house is not free, AND you still have to pay tax!

I admit I went kind of crazy in the beginning so we do have a lot of toothpaste and shampoo/conditioner, but I stopped (unless it's REALLY free) with those and continue to stockpile things we use a lot like toothbrushes, face wash, body wash, hand wash, dishwashing liquid (I like to use the small bottles), and for me, makeup :)

Yep - my mil is borderline coupon queen... and she buys in bulk like the tv show too.

MIL's friend gets her stacks of weekly coupons and she gives us some. We don't hoard like MIL does though.... MIL has an entire emergency basement full of non-perishables..."in case of rainy day" she says... not my style though...

I'm all for a good deal, but if you're buying things you don't NEED. In my mind, that's wasted money!

Gah - that show is HORRIBLE. I clip coupons when I get them. We don't get the paper but I'll get coupons to BJ's and use those or friends sometimes give us theirs. I love that I can use regular coupons at BJ's plus the BJ's coupons. Makes for some good deals sometimes.

Yessiree bob! I get them from the Sunday paper (if there's a good one for something we use often, like pasta, I'll order them from coupon clipping services too) and our neighbor will give us their inserts as well. I only clip coupons for products we use, and I only use them if there is a sale as well. This works well for CVS-- sale + extrabucks + coupon = free stuff, or sometimes overages!

Even with only clipping and filing coupons that I know I could use (Yes, I have a binder) it still takes me a good couple of hours each week. Then of course the trips to the stores take time. My best % savings so far has been around 65%. Those crazy people from the TV shows are definitely extreme-- I could never get close to 100% unless I buy like 2000 packages of gum or whatever, like they do.

I also only keep a small stockpile of health and beauty items. We don't have the space for other stuff!!

I do but I right now use coupons about once every three months. Its time consuming to look at the grocery store ads and match them up to coupons. In the past I've save 56% off my grocery bill. I'm hoping to start up couponing now that I plan my meals out for the month.

I don't coupon at the grocery because we don't really buy many prepackaged/processed foods.
For baby prep, I've been doing a lot of online shopping, and my 2 rules are I (almost) never pay for shipping, and I only buy things when they're on sale or if I can find a promo code to use. Also, I use ebates, which I love! I got the ebates idea from someone on HB and I'm sorry I don't remember who it was, but thank you!!!

I love couponing! I print a lot of my coupons and subscribe to the sunday paper and then I use a website (coupon mom is a good one) to help me make my grocery list (and link my coupons to sale items to help me save the most money!) Last week I was able to score Huggies wipes for free!

@Rubies-most stores will double coupons up to 50 cents, so a 40 cent off coupon is actually good for 80 cents off...my preference is the smaller amount coupons...they are generally for cheaper items (like yogurt, soups, etc) and they double, so you end up paying very little (and sometimes you can get them free) for items that, at least for me, i tend to use more often.

The only coupons I use are Pampers and other baby-related items that I get in the mail for being on their mailing list. I might use other coupons if it's a dollar amount, rather than cents off (ie. $0.40 off)..
