We don't usually do screen time in the evenings on week days because the tv is on and off for a couple of hours a day at her sitter's, but on the weekends if she's watched anything we make sure we're done by dinner. So no screen time during dinner or between dinner and bed.

Full disclosure: this might change when DD2 arrives in October. :P

Currently DD gets to watch something on the Ipad during dinner (yes yes don't kill me with judgment), so our rule is no screen time post dinner till bed time, which is a good 1-2 hours apart.

@erinbaderin: LO1 only watches Daniel Tiger and Bubble Guppies, so we DVR those and let her watch one.

No screen time after dinner, which is usually around 5:30, 6, and then he goes to bed at 7/7:30. Usually he watches a show in the afternoon, around 1, or sometimes while I get dinner ready.

@erinbaderin: we watch episodes on PBS or Disney Jr on demand, or some things on netflix (dinotrux, etc). They're all 20-30 min episodes.

No, LO1 gets to watch TV or YouTube videos while we put LO2 down to sleep, then she goes to bed after that. It is the only way I am able to get LO2 down when I am solo parenting.

We're doing a sleep study, and I have to write down any screen time after six pm. He always wants to run around before he gets in the tub (7:15), so I would probably end screen time by 6:30 anyway, but having to record it is a big disincentive for me.

once dinner starts, we don't do any more screen time as dinner the start of bedtime routine ( sometimes bath, then pjs, teeth and books). i've made an exception when DH was out of town, so i let DS1 watch an episode while i nursed the baby to sleep first and I will likely do that again when I am alone with the kids (it is so rare though, only happened that one time so far).

No. Her bedtime routine includes watching a show. If she had issues turning it off or going to sleep after we would, but so far it's a non issue.

Everybody who does one show per day, how do you do this? B mostly watches Thomas on Netflix, and they're mostly an hour long, and he doesn't like "the man" (the live action sections between the Thomas parts) and also he frequently requests specific episodes. But sometimes he wants Peppa, which are like 6 minutes long, or Masha and the Bear which are 10. Is everybody doing basically one 30 minute episode recorded from tv?

We do one show per day and she typically choose to watch it in the morning, or else occasionally before dinner. So it's not necessarily intentional, but at latest, her screen time tends to be at least an hour before bedtime.

On weekdays, we only have tv after daycare and before dinner, so about 5:15-6. It's still more than I'd like but it's the only way I can manage both kids and get dinner made. Weekends it depends on what's happening but it's definitely off for dinner at 6 and doesn't go back on after. So I guess to answer your actual question an hour before bedtime.

For DD2, she gets to watch one show a day. That ends around 5:30 pm. I don't know if this counts as screentime, but DD1 has homework to do on the computer and we might do that right before she sleeps. It doesn't seem to affect her ability to sleep.

LO1's 1 show a day typically happens while I cook dinner around 5:30pm, and then no more screen time after that. But my husband is usually home by 7, so it's just eating +bath time and those aren't typical screen times anyway.

Then he's home in time for a little play, stories, and bed.

We literally turn off the tablet, brush teeth, go potty, then to bed. She gets crazy at night otherwise, and if she goes to bed before 8-9 she wakes up at 5. For her once the tablet is gone it's apparently not worth being awake any more 😂

I know screen time before bed isn't recommended, but sometimes after a long day solo with the kids it's what I do to help them wind down. I've been trying to cut it off at least 30 minutes before bed though.

Do you cut off screen time at a certain point before bedtime? Like 1 hour before, no screen time after dinner etc.
