I don't like DH's dog. He's a golden retriever/husky mix and sheds buckets of hair. It's everywhere and it makes me insane. No matter how much I mop, sweep, vacuum, brush him... It's covering LO. Ugh.

I hate our dog with a fiery passion. I feel bad because I really did used to love her, but when I got pregnant it's like a switch was flipped. We both woke up with a mutual hate for each other and it's growing more each month. DH won't let me get rid of her.

I wouldn't necessarily call it dislike but our cat has been driving me crazy ever since we brought LO home 2 months ago. He has been attacking us (not viciously...more playful like) more and more and leaving marks (I think this is related to too much energy...we haven't had as much time to play with him) and he has started peeing on things. He peed on some clothes in LO's room and on a rug in the kitchen. I was pissed about the clothes because I think he peed on them because they smelled like LO. He has acted out about the baby more than the dog did! I have actually debated sending him to my parents because of his behavior, which is something I never thought I would do. I think things have gotten better over the last week though...and he's not allowed in LO's room anymore (we bought a baby gate for the door). Hopefully he starts to chill out a bit!

YES. I have always considered myself to be a huge dog lover...and then I met DH's dog, who is now my in-law's dog because there was just no way to safely have him in a house that babies/toddlers live in. He's a doxie and was about 6 years old when I moved in with DH. In general, DH's family has very different expectations of their dogs than what I think is acceptable. He literally had to be in our line of sight at all times if he was not crated or outside - the second he was unsupervised he would piss on things and tear stuff apart. Also, he clearly thought that he was the head of the house, and would get very aggressive if that authority was challenged.

I went through so many attempts with him, I took him to classes, hired trainers, read books, seeked help online, etc. But it's pretty hard to reform a dog that has been allowed to get away with that kind of crap for so many years, and after he growled/snarled at the baby and then took a chunk out of DH's hand when he pushed him away from LO...yeah, I was done. I know it's not the dog's fault he had no training at a younger age, but I can't my children at risk because of it. So the dog now lives with DH's parents, and if the grandkids are over he can run around in their huge backyard or chill in their nice roomy basement that has a whole setup for him. And DH's parents love the dog, so it's a much better setup for everyone. I want to get another dog someday, but it won't be until we don't have toddlers, and when we do that will be my decision since DH works 60 hours a week and the care would all fall on me.

Sorry, I know that's not helpful for you! Is the dog still young? Might mellow out and be more independent with age. Although if she gets in your face with the wanting constant attention I might do some doggie obedience classes to work on that.

I went through a very, very tough time with my one cat about 18 months ago. She is 9 and she was attacking our younger cat who is 5. It was becoming so hard that my husband and i were sleeping in separate rooms, in a tiny apartment, so that neither one of them had to be alone while they were separated.

We always had the option to bring her back to the ASPCA we got her from (they do "take backs" for life) but it killed me to think of her all alone in a cage even though i couldnt freakin stand the way she was acting.

We brought a pet therapist to my apartment and we eventually got her on prozac. I'm glad we stuck it our but there was a long time that i really didn't like her and was actually scared of her.

I didn't like our adopted dog. Prior to having kids, he was our neurotic baby. But when we had baby #1, his antics (barking loudly every time someone walk past our front door, screeching when we left home, pulling nonstop on his leash and hackles up when we passed another dog on the street, jumping on people when they came over, hair shedding like crazy, etc). It all became too much so I knew when I was pregnant with baby #2, we had to rehome him.

Through a series of fortunate events, he is now living with a lovely couple in sweden! I think he's very happy.

I hate myself for saying this but I like our dogs a heck of a lot less since having DD. I still love them but that is very much outweighed by all the responsibilities they bring - particularly the poop; I want a lovely garden for DD to play in and their pee and poop antics make that virtually impossible. We built them a "run" (they have the run of the garden while we're watching - so we can poop pick immediately - but the run is for when we're not watching!) but that takes up most of the patio which also irks me. I feel awful for saying it but I kinda wish we didn't have them!

@Cole: Yeah, you are probably right. When I play ball with her is the only time I actually kind of enjoy her so that makes sense. I will have to try to focus more on that.

I have a cat that I am not too fond of. He's really old and just getting to be yukky... I wasn't very fond of him whenhe was younger either BUT he's mine and I am responsible for taking care of him until the end.... I just wish he'd stop carrying litter ALL over the place and stop destroying my house :(

We had to rehome DH's dog shortly after we got married. He tried to attack my 5lb Yorkie and turned on my husband when he tried to protect her. He was very food aggressive and had to be fed outside and it was very risky whenever anything was dropped on the floor. He attempted to attack me twice. Once was because of food and the second was completely unprovoked. DH saw the second attempted attack on me, was completely horrified and we gave him up to a stellar Humane Society a few hours away. I suspect that they had to put him down after the behavioral "test" but we felt better knowing that we didn't just hand him over to another family where he could have really hurt someone and the Humane Society had behavioral experts/trainers there.
We did the best we could but it just wasn't safe anymore. It was really hard for DH but it needed to be done. :bummed:

I have never been a dog person and it took a solid 6 months before I really cared about him at all. Even after that it wasn't the way some people love their dogs. Right now we are becoming better friends because I have made a point to walk him daily and do training work or games with him daily. He likes me more now too which helps.

So I guess my advice is don't worry about it too much, time helps but walks and training games help too. I kept thinking giving him lots of treats would make us bond better but that definitely did nothing for us.

I don't like our cat at all. She's mean, destructive, and annoying as heck. Buuut she's DH's baby and I can't convince him otherwise. Annoying!!

We just have one pet, a dog that I adopted 6+ years ago and, for the most part, she's great. I don't like any of my sisters dogs though (she has 4 large dogs). They are super territorial and often aggressive. It always makes me nervous when we have to go there and visit.

@Torchwood: haha thanks I was starting to feel like the only one. I guess I should get some satisfaction knowing she's off the street and we take good care of her and she gets more than enough hugs and kisses from the kids but... I am just not used to disliking an animal like this!

My cat is kinda like that. She's been mine her whole life (12 years), but she's just a pain more and more as she gets older. Similar to your dog, she wants to be on top of me most of the time, except she uses her claws to hold on so it's even awesomer. She wants to be petted all the time, but when you pet her, she's that typical cat who only likes it her way, plus she just randomly bites you sometimes while you're petting her. It's like she needs to pretend she doesn't like it or something? And she wakes me up in the middle of the night a LOT, laying on my pillow and whacking me in the head with her tail, or just meowing. And of course she sheds, which our dogs don't so if we didn't have her we wouldn't have to deal with pet hair.

We've looked into getting rid of her, but have never found anyone willing to take her, including no-kill shelters. She's honestly sweet, minus the random bites which aren't really hard enough to hurt, just SO needy. Anyone in TN need a really clingy cat?

I have no tips on getting to like your dog better, but I totally empathize with the feeling!

I feel SOOOO bad admitting this but I just don't love our adopted doggie. She is a great dog but she sort of drives me up the wall and then I feel guilty about it.

I had a dog before who was like my child and the difference is night and day.

This new dog is also super needy and always trying to sit on me at all times. I avoid sitting on the floor or I have to shut her out while I play with the kids because otherwise she literally will not get off me and wants to be petted all the time and then it really irks me!!!

My kids love her and I would never rehome her. How can I start liking her more? HELP?
