All the places we saw that did had kind of gross menu options. Not cheez whiz roll level gross, but also not what I would like to have him eat every day. He is given snacks, none of which are super-nutritious - think pretzels, cheese-it's, etc., but I can deal with that. We tend to overpack his lunch anyway, so they will often take the extra stuff we send and give to him for a snack. Parents are supposed to bring healthy snack, but often I am surprised by what they eat. There are lots of crackers and juice (both things we don't provide at home). I guess I let crackers and juice slide, but surely I'd draw the line at cheez whiz. The daycare that my LO will be starting at in March does not allow outside food in order to control allergens in the class. However, they do have an on site cook that will cater to any food restrictions your child might have. I think it will be tough to send food with her because at some point, she IS going to want what everyone else is eating and may refuse her own home packed lunches. A lot of eating has to do with peer pressure, and nobody really enjoys being singled out when all they want to do is eat/do what everyone else is eating. Food could easily be a dealbreaker for me. Each lunch is a homecooked meal but there is often a pizza or chicken nugget thrown in there. They always serve with a side of fruit and a side of veggies (both out of the can, never fresh). Breakfast is a lot of carbs. I'd be worried about her eating carbs/fats all day and refusing veggies and good stuff at migt at home. A liitle heavy on the carbs, lots of crackers, muffins etc but also fruit and dairy. In your situation you may want to ask if other famillies also send food or if LO would be the only one.. there is a kid in LOs class who cant have dairy and he always fusses when everyone else has cheesesticks or yogurt and he has whatvever his family sent instead. He is only like 16 moonths. It wouldnt be a dealbraker rght off btut it wouldnt definitely be a factor. I hope you find a better fit! There is a daycare i'm considering, but i don't like the menu at all. Cheez Whiz bread rolls? Since i make almost everything from scratch, it's really difficult for me to think about my 1 year old eating a ton of processed food. Should i just bypass the daycare, send her with food, or just lighten up? :)
