We do pretty often, but it's always just exploration, not a "thing." We have lots of materials: paint, brushes, clay, modeling wax, stamps, watercolors (grown-up version and washable), crayons, markers, paper scraps, glue, stickers, washi tape... tons of stuff. The girls will ask (or in Ellie's case just grab supplies and set herself up) to do a craft or some art, and I will help them get things out and clean up. For a long time I had Lorelei do really messy stuff in her highchair so the mess was limited to a confined space, but now she does at the art table and it's not usually *that* awful. The girls enjoy it, and for whatever reason it's something that I feel pretty low-key and not stressed about, so it works for us. Ellie's friends like to come over and do crazy projects because some of the parents are more careful about mess. Which is probably why it's our house that looks like a Disco vomited glitter sometimes, but, hey; if you don't like crafts, when your kids get bigger you can send them to someone else's house that doesn't mind it and everyone will be happy. ;)

They do so many crafts at daycare that I don't bother at home. She like to draw, colour and paint so I mostly focus on that.

Our typical craft attempt:

"Ok, lets sit on our bum and do our craft"
"Are we done doing crafts already?"
"Ok please stop putting that in your mouth and finish our craft"
"Why are you taking your shirt off?"
"Ok lets put the crafts away, you are not interested right now"
"Ok, stop crying and we will finish the craft"

And so on and so forth.

Sometimes, but it really depends on what I have around. Today I had a foam turkey kit I got somewhere. I took the backing off of all of the stickers and let her just put them wherever. I'll post a picture of it tonight.

I leave crayons and paper out and will bring out glue and paper scraps on the weekend. She does a lot of crafts at daycare so I don't feel compelled to do a lot at home.

She isn't really that into them at storytime, so I don't put a lot of effort into them right now. Crayons and paints with plain paper are good enough. As she gets older and hopefully has more interest (she is almost 2 now) I plan to make more of an effort, but I will have a second one at that point so who knows.

I actually do a lot of crafts with my 2 year old.

We picked leaves and made a "tree" by gluing the leaves to a toilet paper roll. Using a toilet paper roll + cut out feathers from construction paper to make a turkey. I let her paint the toilet paper roll brown first. I also made a thankful turkey and I also trace her body outline with a magic marker on craft paper and let her scribble all over it. She gets a kick out of that.

I also bake with her ... probably the easiest of which is jello. I add the boiling water, she adds the cold water and she mixes the whole shebang and then she gets to eat it the next day. And pudding. And cookies, brownies.

I do a more involved craft about once a week and the rest of the time they just draw/color. Last week we tried to make a leaf print but that was a fail. In October we did: decorate a pumpkin (stickers and gluing pieces of paper), a spider out of a paper plate (I made holes and they stuck in pipe cleaners to make the legs), and a spider web ( I drew the web in white crayon and they painted over it so that the web appeared).

Yes, I try to do crafts on the weekends with LO. Sometimes that just means sitting with her while she colors, sometimes it’s a more planned out activity. Recently we’ve made bead bracelets and necklaces together (done this several times, actually, but my LO is a jewelry-loving mini diva so she actually requests we do this!), and we’ve done Thanksgiving and some Christmas crafts to send to the grandparents for each of the holidays.

The Thanksgiving one, I cut a basic tree trunk with branches shape out of brown paper and pasted it to white paper. Then LO took wine corks and used those as stampers (if you have round stampers, awesome) and stamped “leaves” with red, yellow and orange paint. She also wanted to use purple paint, so our trees were pretty colorful.

For the Christmas craft, I cut out a Christmas tree shape from green paper and mounted that on a piece of white paper and then let LO decorate the tree with all sorts of random craft stuff – fuzzy mini sparkly pom-poms, stickers, some gold glitter, etc.

Sometimes, we're not on a regular schedule. We do simple things. We got some pinecones and I let her paint them and pour glitter on them. She helped me make a pinecone owl. Last weekend we picked up leaves and then went home and painted them on construction paper.

I have tried to do certain crafts off of Pinterest that ended up being too much for her, so now I keep it simple. I will cut out shapes in paper and have her practice gluing. She also has hole punches that do shapes and she'll glue them to paper. Keep it simple!

ETA: Last night's "craft" was sitting in an empty box and coloring it! :)

We don't do a ton, but I've tried to pin a bunch and might work on a schedule/plan for the New Year now that she's 2 and can do a few more things. I'm talking like plan out 2 crafts a month or something and have all the supplies ready to go.

I did once! It was harrowing. I just painted their hands and let them touch things, but it took a lot of work! Especially keeping one busy while I painted with the other. And keeping the paint out of their mouths! They painted on craft pumpkins and foam pumpkins as gifts for friends and family. This is the final product! (Please ignore the dust and dog hair visible in this pic. Ain't nobody got time for dusting in this house). ETA: my twins were 5.5 months when we did this!

I was pretty good about doing crafts with LO before LO2 was born, but now it's all about surviving the day with two! I have pinned a bunch of cute ideas on Pinterest but haven't gotten around to them yet. LO is only two though, so she is happy with simply painting.

Are you good about doing crafts with your LO? Any easy crafts you have done lately?
