I will probably give her a set amount to spend per parent so she can practice money and number skills as well as generosity. Last year we had her pick out a gift for DH and me. Small stuff. I took her to the men's section at Target and choose one of the seasonal boxed gifts they have. She picked the tabletop pool table. I agree with you that it helps teach the concept of giving. For now we pick it out, I think the next step will be presenting three options to DD and letting her decide, and eventually allowing her to pick completely. That's how my parents did it for me and it worked well.</p> <p>I think if it is important to you, you just need to discuss it with your DH. Like for Christmas, do you get a gift for your child to give to your spouse? I try to but my DH never does. I'd like to find a way to encourage him to because I think it is a nice way to get the kids involved in the giving side of the holidays and not just receiving. </p>
