I'd much rather pay someone! When I was younger, my parents had their accountant do my taxes. Then in my early-mid 20s, I had one of my friends who is a CPA do them for super cheap. After we got married, our taxes got more complicated, so I hired an accountant to handle my small business and our personal taxes. It costs a LOT, but such a relief to have someone to handle everything and answer my questions. So far, it seems pretty straight-forward, but I'm curious to see how complicated it is to do them this year since we have made some investments. And then next year we'll have a baby to take into account. When I was working as a case manager I had to help a client do his taxes. I had no idea what I was doing. It was bad.... but it all turned out ok. They only get paid during the seventeen weeks of the season. And when they have an away game that weeks paycheck is considered to have been earned in the state where the game was played. So he would have to file in like six states. Plus he had a million write offs. Now we have pretty standard taxes. Investment income is about as exciting as it gets and I can handle all of it in turbo tax.
