I had a coffee every day all through my pregnancy - my morning sickness was exacerbated by headaches and trying to cut out caffeine made me super sick. Once I went back to my usual coffee in the morning my sickness became totally manageable. I just kept going through my whole pregnancy and definitely needed the jolt in the 3rd tri!

The recommendation on caffeine during pregnancy is not causal or conclusive. You should check out the book Expecting Better by Emily Oster. Don't be hard on yourself; if you want the coffee, have the coffee! :)

My (expensive) idea was to have a 1 shot latte whenever I was out and about in my 2nd and 3rd trimesters - I have read the caffeine content in an espresso shot is pretty consistent and I think is just under 100 mg. I think I just wanted an excuse to have lattes more than usual! I didn't have coffee or caffeine in the first trimester mainly because I didn't care about it for some reason.

i followed the 200mg limit per day of caffeine and calculated what i could have based on the things i enjoy. which came out to be one cup of coffee in the morning (the one i didn't want to give up), then either soda or green in the afternoon (sometimes skipped). and i didn't worry about chocolate since the caffeine amount is so small.

With both pregnancies I started drinking my regular coffee after the first trimester aversions/nausea had passed. I typically just drink one cup a day so I kept it the same.

Yes I do, honestly probably more in the first tri than normal since I'm so exhausted. I've always had coffee black but weirdly in this pregnancy (but not in my first pregnancy) my tastebuds have rejected the bitterness so I've had to start adding milk and sugar for the first time.

I do a cup of half caf in the morning and a tea or another half caf in the afternoon if I need it (95% of the time I just have the one). I'll drink a cup or two of full strength on really bad headache / migraine days (as per my midwives) because the extra caffeine helps a bit. Right now I'm drinking it with a little sugar and soy milk or flavoured creamer.

I didn't with my first but have been with this pregnancy. I've stopped drinking it for the most part the last couple weeks (8 weeks now) just bc I haven't felt like it with morning sickness. But I've managed to stomach it a few times. Will have no problem drinking it again when I'm no longer feeling sick. I get jittery if I drink too much coffee so I figure as long as I don't feel jittery it's fine.

I switched to a cup of black tea. I did drink a cup of joe until it gave me intestinal cramps in the AM. :( I miss my coffee, even though it really didn't taste all that great when I did drink it in the first and second tri.

I switched to tea and limited it to 1, maybe 2 cups per day. I did occasionally have coffee as a treat if I was, say, meeting up with a friend or coworker at a coffee shop - in which case I ordered a cafe au lait or iced coffee that was 1/2 milk. I wasn't super concerned about caffeine generally, but I know I consume a lot in regular life, so I needed to regulate it somewhat to make sure I didn't have way too much.

I've had some coffee aversions this pregnancy. I tend to drink decaf, but I do indulge in an occasional cup of normal coffee.

Not sure if this is helpful, but my doctor actually mentioned to me that an espresso actually contains less caffeine than a cup of coffee and will give you greater caffeine benefits.

First trimester, decaf only, second trimester maybe 1-2 cups regular or half-caf a week. Third trimester, I've been having 1 cup cold brew regular a day (homemade). I cut it by 1/3 with unsweetened regular Ripple milk, so I think it's maybe 6oz of actual coffee. I need the help waking up to chase my toddler!

I had one cup a day after first trimester with my first. With my second pregnancy and a sleep hating toddler, I really needed more than that. Like I figured it was safer to push the caffeine limits than get in a car accident driving too tired.

I did try to keep it under two full home brewed cups a day. And tried to add extra milk to the second cup. But yeah. I needed it.

With lo1 I had a huge coffee aversion but not w lo2, I def needed it! I just cut back and would add more milk so that I could stretch my 1-1.5 cups out over a day. So in the morning first thing, I'd have 1/2 cup drip but fill the cup up the rest of the way with milk so it felt like a full cup. Then late morning or early afternoon I'd have another 1/2 c if I was home, or a small espresso drink. I'd have a third late afternoon if I really needed it but I tired to only do that on days when I had deadlines. I kept under the 200mg/day limit but spacing it out kept me going through the day.
