I do both full color and highlights for contrast. It never looked good when I did it myself at home. I have sandy blonde hair and always do blonde highlights, so I can go long stretches in between dye jobs and not look totally strange. I have gray hairs, too. It wasn't until I was close to graduating when I realized how damaged my hair was. I haven't dyed my hair since. It's taken years for all of that dyed hair to grow out.
