I agree with the petroleum jelly to protect your skin, gloves, and plenty of towels you don't care to stain. I don't like to do it myself any more (so I rarely dye it) because I would always stain the walls! Just be very careful of not splashing when you apply! My advice is to make sure you wear the gloves, sacrifice a cheap brush or comb so you can pull the color through, and have a friend/husband check you for missed spots! Oh, and use petroleum jelly on your ears and neck so the color doesnt stain those areas! But I don't go too crazy. I buy some of those cheap $3 revlon dyes at Walmart and follow the instructions. I usuall buy 4 packages for my hair. But I also dyed a 1inch by 4 inch strip down the middle of my hair purple and love it. I bleached it and then dyed it purple with some stuff from hot topic (scary store lol). Then I treated myself and had it done at a salon once and I've been hooked ever since then. I find it's worth the money to have someone else do it for me, since I have really thick hair and it's such a hassle to make sure I didn't miss any spots. Plus I would always use a brown-reddish hue and it would fade to an orange-y color after a couple months. Now when I get it professionally done, it doesn't fade as bad so I can get away with only coloring it once every 3 months.</p> <p>Is there a beauty school nearby that you could go to?
