It's probably better that I don't eat as much!

We gave a pretty good routine since we only have 1 so far; DH preps dinner and I prep DD for dinner. We sit down and eat together. I focus on giving her what she needs, and when DH is done we switch and I focus on eating. But usually before I'm done DD wants out of the high chair so I don't finish. But like I said; it's probably better that I'm not eating as much!

yes and no! yes because lo likes eating off my plate more than hers :silly: but no because dh eats fast, so he gets up with lo while I keep eating if we're all eating together and she's fussing ;) about half the time, we eat dinner after she goes to sleep (just depends what's for dinner/how long it takes to prep), and then I get all my food to myself

I inhale all my food right now. If both kids are quiet, I gobble as fast as I can while I have chance. So yes, plenty of food for me

Yeah I have to finish eating every night either while playing on the floor with them (but then they want me to share....) or after they're in bed. It drives me insane.

When they were your kids age? No way!

Now they are older yes I do!

They are 4.5 and 7 and we all sit down for 20 mins - even if you are done you have to sit there and wait - my kids use to rush off after taking a few bites but now that I make them sit for 20 mins they slowly but surely eat all their dinner

At a restaurant this is totally me. There's too much to do for my son for me to be able to enjoy a full meal.
At home, we always eat after he goes to bed. It's just way easier that way and we don't eat the same things anyway. I make him his food because he's easy but we usually order in for ourselves.

@winniebee: this is why DH and I usually eat dinner after c goes to bed. I'll have a few bites of whatever she is eating during her dinner time, then make and eat our dinner after bed. DH is never home by her dinner time during the week.

On weekends we try to eat together but it's easier since he is home before, so he can keep her from under my feet. Then I make up the plates before anyone sits down. And she is still in a high chair so she can't get up and walk away, plus luckily she is a slow eater.

I imagine it will only get harder as she gets older and we add a second baby to the mix.

That sounds chaotic. Bummer. We only have one LO so far and he is 2.5. I eat a full dinner every night. Sometimes DS leaves the table before we do because he is fussing that he is done, but he just goes and plays and we keep eating. DH does a lot of the getting up to get things if need be (we forgot napkins, DS wants milk, etc) because I just stood on my feet and cooked for 40 minutes so he is happy to play waiter when needed. :) Also he is a fast eater so he doesn't mind.

Yes. But I don't have a toddler or baby around either. Back when I did, I would answer no. At this point after we are all finished eating, we will let our daughter go play while we talk a bit and I will nibble off of her plate if she hasn't eaten everything and if I am still hungry.

Haha yup, same here!

@LuLu Mom: haha my 3.5 is usually running in to set the table because she sees us plating. Then she sits down at the table nd is usually complaining that she's "so, hungry!!" Or that I'm taking too long. :silly: And the only way we can even plate right now is putting the 14m in her high chair because she is SO clingy right now. Which means she's screaming for food too.

Dinner is chaotic in our house right now.

@LuLu Mom: My husband doesn't get home until *right* at dinner time, if he's home for dinner at all (we eat right when he gets home at 6/615) so I usually have both kids whining and pulling at me for dinner at like 545. It's chaos! It was a lot easier when the baby wasn't as opinionated!

Oh no! We made it a rule that everyone sits down at the table until everyone is done. that way we can have a family conversation, hopefully that will become a habit when life gets crazier and the kids are in school. I try my best to have the plates made up before I "call dinner" so that way we all eat at the same time, would this be an option?

Lately, I feel like I barely eat dinner. By the time everyone gets what they need in front of them (and is asking for more or less or something different) and I've finally gotten to sit, the 11 month old is acting crazy throwing food and my 3.5 year old is "done" and leaving the table and my husband is wrangling him back. I feel like I eat 5 bites of dinner and it's over. Good weight loss regimen, I guess?

Anyone else feel this way?
