DH will do birthday gifts but he is a MAJOR Scrooge when it comes to the holidays (even with a cute two year old so excited for Santa already....) so I end up finding gifts for his side of the family. I love my SIL so I enjoy buying for her, but I could do without my MIL. But his side mostly wants (and gives) gift cards.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who finds this process a drag. Seems like the smart families have eliminated gift giving!

If it's DH's family, he is primarily in charge. They are big into birthday cards, etc., so he sends them. I don't. As for Christmas, we asked that we not exchange presents for the adults anymore, and they didn't listen last year. It gets a little out of control with all of DH's cousins and their husbands. Honestly, my BIL and SIL are the hardest people to shop for.

I love shopping in any form, so I just go for it. Sometimes I get annoyed that he NEVER sends Chritmas/birthday/thank you cards to his extended family, but it is what it is.

I buy gifts for my family, and he buys them for his family. He loves to shop for gifts! I take care of the holiday cards for both sides. I don't mind, I love his family just as much as I love my own. (Except for his dad).

I actually enjoy buying gifts for his family and if I left it to him, it'd be done last minute. What I'm dreading is having to open our gifts in front of them this Christmas! I might resort to drinking to get me through this year (and I hardly ever drink)!

I don't like it for the sole reason that they are so hard to buy for. DH is usually no help in trying to come up with stuff. Except for the nephews, he likes to pick out toys for them.

We don't do gifts anymore except for his parents. His siblings don't want us getting them or the kids anything until we have kids, then its okay to get the kids something just not the parents. So I send cards for DH & my side. We do get the kids a little something for their birthdays (parents can't tell us no if its already in with the card) usually a $10-20 gift card for food or iTunes.

we each take care of gifts for our own families. I'm always so touched, though, when DH's family gives me gifts, because I guess I don't feel like they have too, but they do and they put so much thought into it too. It's so nice.

We only get presents for the kids on DH's side... our niece, nephew, and his Uncles 3 young daughters. None of the adults exchange gifts. The first few years DH and I were together, we tried hard to find nice gifts for all of his family members (parents, sister, BIL, uncles, aunts, grandma)... but then realized that none of them reciprocated or even appreciated the gifts. So we stopped!

We still do presents for my parents and my little sister because we still do a gift exchange.

I hate hate hate it. I have to figure out 10 or so gifts for each of DH's immediate family members. It is the WORST. Everyone already buys what they want and I just think its a waste of time and money. A few gifts are fine, but they go over the top and we end up with a lot of crap that sits in our basement for years.

DH's family lives abroad, and we will send something small for his mom and my SIL & niece. I feel a little bad (but not really) that we're not sending stuff for everyone (he has 7 brothers & sisters), but I only know SIL well. Most of his siblings I haven't met and he doesn't really like anyways, so it's just easier this way. Plus, if we sent stuff to everyone on his side shipping would be really expensive!!

Dh insists that we don't do gifts for adults on his side. I feel weird about it because I do gifts for my parents .... but it makes life so much easier so I don't complain.

He does have a 7 year old niece that I love buying for though. We started dating when she was turning 4 and he asked me to help pick out her 4th birthday present, I was so excited!

We don't give gifts to adults on DH's side anymore, so I do enjoy putting the kids gifts together. It also helps
That we don't do gifts unless we see each other for Christmas (maybe every other year). I would probably be super stresses if I had to mail off gifts for the entire family ever year though. That's some dedication to your in laws!!

Totally feel the same way - his family would never receive any cards or gifts from us if it wasn't for me remembering. They are really difficult to shop for and then make a big deal when we get them a lot of stuff (even though we have the $ to spend on them), so I almost want to be like "let's not exchange gifts anymore!"

I take care of all cards and gifts for bday and holidays for DH's family. I really don't enjoy it but he isn't going to do it and I feel like it would reflect badly on ME if they never get anything.

Ugh, just feeling pissy as I spend Sunday morning sending off cards and packages to his family.
