Hiking was one of our first dates, we both love it! Unfortunately Phoenix has so much dang urban sprawl that it takes some time to get to unpopulated areas. Or it's too hot to enjoy, or on the nice days- super crowded and hard to find parking. Sadly, there aren't a lot of options for hiking in our immediate area, as it's quite flat here. My mum lives about 1.5 hours away though and is right next to a conservation area with kilometers upon kilometers of really nice trails (and more topographical variation than here). </p> <p>We did a week of day-hiking in Algonquin Park last summer (would have been better if it hadn't been during the week when my m/s was the worst), but I think our favourite hiking destination so far has been Acadia National Park in ME. I would love to live in TN or NC to take advantage of the mountain trails. We live in Fl, though, so although there are many trails, it's way too hot most of the year and the bugs (ticks, horseflies, mosquitoes) make a lot of it miserable and not worth it.
