I'm so guilty of this... I at home until she turns 1 and when DH is parenting, I totally chime in when I should just let him be. I'm trying to get out of that habbit.

I definitely give suggestions but my husband will do whatever he wants most times. The result is a lot of crying. Oh well!

we do it to each other every so often, but i guess it seems we're on the same page for the most part, and learning together in raising our LO, that it doesn't bother us for the "extra advice". however, when his parents start giving us parenting advice, then it's just downright irritating.

Not that often, but from time to time I will say something if it's a matter of being consistent about something specific. DH will also share his "tricks" if there's something he notices, but we're both pretty laid back so it doesn't really cause conflict.

Nope! Never. We do it differently, but that's not bad.

I'm unfortunately guilty of it. I just want to make it easier on the husband, so i'll give him tips, but i guess it can come off as backseat parenting. :(

I think the hubs and I both do it to each other. It's not annoying (yet), but it's only been 11 weeks... hahah.

Sometimes, but sometimes my husband does it to me, too! :) We both have to be careful not to step on each other's toes.

There was a funny/painful scene in "Up All Night" this week where Will Arnett stops being a SAHD dad and his wife (Christina Applegate) takes over as a SAHM. Christina struggles to climb the learning curve of SAH parenting, and Will Arnett responds by "backseat parenting" her... basically giving her advice on what she should do with their daughter (and how she should do it). Naturally Christina goes bananas and conflict ensues.

What was interesting was that the advice he was giving was actually pretty good... but despite that, it was painfully clear that he should just let her learn from her own mistakes. If she needed help or advice, she would ask him and be receptive to it!

Still though, it's hard to say nothing when it feels like your child's happiness is at stake!

Do you ever "backseat parent"? How about your SO?
