I had one today, and while I don't dread them per se, I don't really look forward to them either. I usually wait at least 30 minutes to see the doctor. Then, she does the doppler to hear for heartbeats, asks if I have any questions, answers them and sends me on my way. I usually spend less than 10 minutes with the OB, and sometimes I just wish I could do the ultrasounds and only come to OB appointments in the last trimester when it's closer to baby time. I was happy to go and hear the heartbeats today though because we have to go 4 weeks between ultrasounds this time, and it's making me really nervous. I needed to hear their little heartbeats for reassurance!

Now, all my ultrasound appointments are a different matter. Even going every other week, I'm always ready to see the babies and make sure everything is okay!

I had a 45 minute drive when pregnant to my OBGYN's office. We didn't want to deliver at the hospital in our town (have never had a positive experience there) and I had been seeing an OBGYN in the nearest city when I got pregnant, so we kept going.

Definitely wear your yogas and be comfy. I wear mine all the time and I'm not pregnant anymore. :)

I used to fear them back before I could feel baby move. I was always so terrified they wouldn't find a heartbeat. But now I quite like going. I've actually always enjoyed doctor's appts because I like getting checked out and confirming that I'm healthy. My OB's office is 5 minutes from my office and my husband always meets me so I get to see him midday which is a treat. And it's comforting to hear her tell me everything is on the right track. But I will say I'm getting a little sick of the number of times I've had to go to the hospital so far!!!!!

I started getting annoyed with them, especially at the end. I also had a 45 minute drive, with sciatica, and usually traffic on the way home. A couple of times it took 2 hours+ to get back home and I had a mid-morning appointment! All I wanted to do was jump back into my yoga pants, eat some Chick-fil-a, and nap on the couch.

Wow I feel so lucky that my OBs office is 10 min away! On the other hand in the daycare thread I am not feeling so lucky that our child care is so much more! I guess these are the pros and cons of living in a big city!

I don't mind going, but it can be awfully time consuming weekly and I feel guilty that I miss so much work.

30 minutes to drive there
15 minutes to pee in the cup, waiting for my turn, being weighed, blood pressure etc
30-40 minutes for my weekly BPP ultrasound
10 minutes waiting for my turn again to see the doctor after the ultrasound
15 minutes with the doctor to check my fundal height, baby's heartbeat, cervical check
30 minute drive home

So it's like 2.5-3 hours every week. Hopefully not too much longer though!

All of my appointments are in the morning, usually before work. I dislike the peeing in a cup part, and am starting to get tired of the weighings. Of the three doctors who are available, I really like 2 of them, so that isn't too bad. I am not very excited when I have to see the third one though.

It's totally normal to not always want to go out. I've always enjoyed going to our prenatal appointments, once we get out the door anyway. But the appts are really low-key and easy...DH goes with me, they're at the midwives' homes, and they only live about twenty minutes away. I've never had to wait to be seen, pee in a cup, or step on a scale, haha!

Go for the yoga pants! You never know, they could make all the difference!

Yeah that drive would be rough, esp once you have to start going weekly. I would wear the tank top and yoga pants. I would that to mine if I didn't have to go to work afterwards. So far I haven't minded any of my appointments. It makes me feel better when I hear the heartbeat, cause I am worrying all the time something has gone wrong.

I could definitely see having to drive 45 minutes one way being annoying. I wouldn't like that either! We're lucky that our practice is 10 minutes from our house, so it's really convenient.

And I don't think you need to dress up for them! Wear your yoga pants and be comfortable! Especially for that long car ride!

@autumnlove: See, reading that makes me feel guilty, because I've never had to wait more than ten minutes, and even then it was because there were two births happening at the center and all three midwives were occupied. Usually I go right in, exactly on time.

I LOVED all my appts. I was at a birth center too and I loved everything about it. We always scheduled the appt's on days DH could come so I actually really liked the 45 minute drive down there. DH and I usually got lunch afterwards and spent the day being together. I have the best memories of them.

So far in this pregnancy, I've always looked forward to my appointments at the birth center. I love the place, I love the midwives, I love hearing the heartbeat and discussing all my thoughts and concerns.

But today, I just don't feel like it. I don't want to be in the car that long (it's 45 minutes each way), I don't want to squeeze myself into something other than my daily uniform of yoga pants and a tank top (I haven't bought maternity clothes yet), I don't want to put makeup on... I'm tired. Meh.

I'm only 18 weeks! I have a lot of time to go, this had better not become a regular thing!
