I never feel stupid. My boys are prone to ear infections so I was always taking them in. Whenever they say it's just a virus and has to take its course I am more than happy with that answer. I always want to make sure. I would hate for it to be something else and not do anything for it. Besides customer/ patient satisfaction should be part of their job. If they are rude to everyone they won't have many patients after awhile.

@pelikila: When I called the appointment line, the rep asked me the symptoms and she told me I should definitely take LO in! Usually they make me speak to an advice nurse or take a message for the dr if they aren't sure if we should come in.

We have a really awesome pedi and have never been made to feel like we over-reacted to anything we brought our son in for, even when it did turn out to be nothing. I'm sorry you had such a negative reaction. When you called for the appointment, did they vet your request for the appointment to see if they could help over the phone first? Ours does this and we really like talking to the nurses first if we are on the fence on needing to come in. Also, when my son had a bad ear infection at 4 months he was still happy and smiling but I knew something was wrong so baby's actions don't always tell the whole story.

Yah, all the time. I feel like most doctors that Charlie sees don't take his ailments seriously. There is one who does, and he's opening up his own practice... so we will be going with him.

that was rude of her! But I always worry they will think I am an idiot when I ask questions. like artbee said... better safe than sorry. I took my Lo in a week ago because she had a cold for 2 weeks. After I called to make an appointment her nose stopped running, and she wasn't acting like a sick baby like she had been. The dr. was very nice and we found out LO had a sinus infection.

I would be REALLY angry if my doctor cut me off while I was trying to voice my concerns. My LO isn't here yet but I went through a similar situation for myself. I saw another doctor at my GP's office and he implied that I was being dramatic and sent me home. Two weeks later I was back to meet with my GP because my sickness had developed to a very advanced and intense case of bronchitis. I made it very clear to my GP that I was extremely upset by the way the other doctor treated me and I now refuse to see anyone else but her, and they accomodate me because of my experience. I would reach out to your primary pedi and let him/her know about your experience. It sounds like your daughter will be just fine, but that doesn't justify cutting off a mother and being condescending to her while she's trying to explain her child's symptoms!

My LO was not her usual self yesterday...she was lethargic, cried more than usual, had crusty eyes, had no interest in feeding, no cooing or playfulness and she was running a fever. I took her temperature rectally in the morning and it was 101.1 so I gave her 0.8 ml of Tylenol and waited 4 hours. Her temperature was 102.5 the second time so I took her in for a same day appointment.

The nurse took LO's temp (101.5) and put us in an exam room. My LO perked up once she was in that room...she started smiling and shrieking at her reflection in the huge mirrors and was playing with tissue paper covering the exam table! (Maybe I should buy some big mirrors and a roll of paper for her to play with at home! )

The doctor(not our regular Dr...ours had the day off) gave her a quick exam and told me that LO was under the weather and I should continue giving her Tylenol and should use lukewarm washcloths to cool her. She also said next time I should wait 3 days and sick babies aren't usually this happy. I tried to explain her other symptoms but she cut me off and said it's ok Mommy, you are first time parent and this is normal. I felt like an idiot but I don't regret taking her in!

Do you ever feel bad about taking your LO to the doctor?
