They never directly said any such thing, but I always knew growing up that the oven gets turned off as soon as it's empty, and you should always double check. I've recently left the burners on a few times because I had it so low that I didn't realize I forgot to turn it off. Especially since the first few times I cooked, I'd forget to turn off the oven and only remember a little later when I was plating dinner. Nervewracking stuff! I looked it up and it said that other than a huge gas/electricity bill, you can leave your oven on (closed) for quite a long time and it's usually safe. But I'd rather not risk it, especially with kids. Do you ever forget to turn the oven off after you're done cooking?
