No, my parents somehow seemed to drill into me at a young age that any oven left on and any coffee pot or toaster left plugged in will result in a burnt down house. They never directly said any such thing, but I always knew growing up that the oven gets turned off as soon as it's empty, and you should always double check.

ETA: rereading this, I sound crazy. haha!

Yes, I have, but our oven also has a noisy fan so I always hear it after a short while.

I have but I'm not as worried abiut the oven as I am about the burners. I've recently left the burners on a few times because I had it so low that I didn't realize I forgot to turn it off. No bueno.

@spaniellove: aah, the fans-there it is. I've had creaky ovens before, but they were rental crap ones that made me afraid that I was going to get blown up. I don't think most people choose to have them in their own homes ;)

@LovelyPlum: I never really thought about it but it seems to be an issue with the Wolf dual-fuel ovens and their noisy fans!

I have before. It freaks me out to think that I might do it, but if it's only a few minutes, I don't freak. But I'd rather not, if I don't have to!

I've been cooking a bit more lately, and I find myself constantly worrying that I forgot to turn off the oven. Especially since the first few times I cooked, I'd forget to turn off the oven and only remember a little later when I was plating dinner.

Nervewracking stuff! I looked it up and it said that other than a huge gas/electricity bill, you can leave your oven on (closed) for quite a long time and it's usually safe. But I'd rather not risk it, especially with kids.

Do you ever forget to turn the oven off after you're done cooking?
