i have an appointment with an allergist this friday. i had to postpone it until all the zyrtec cleared my system. mr. bee thinks it might be a new jacket that i bought, and it just might be. i haven't worn it in a couple of days, and i haven't had hives. i'm going to test it out and wear the jacket the morning of my appointment!

I got them postpartum and they were seriously aggravated by hot showers. They went away after a few months of their own accord.

I used to get them more often when I was a kid - I'm allergic to penicillin (so is my mom) and once I got them while taking a z-pack (but it also could have been from the virus I had). The last time I got them was the night we got engaged! I still don't know what caused it - at the time I thought it was food, but now I think it was probably stress.

I get them all the time and always have to hold back on scratching and scarring my face! I get hives when it's too cold, or too hot. I get them when I smell cookies baking, most fragrance will give me hives. My most recent allergic reaction breaking out in hives is shrimp.

I get them from running in cooler weather. I also get them whenever my body temp is raised (walking quickly) and it's cool outside. Just randomly started 5 years ago when I was living in the UK, it sucks cause I live in Canada now and it makes winter activities more uncomfortable!

I had the worst hives for most of the summer, lips swelling etc.. I went on prednisone to try to get rid of it and ended up just getting sick as it ruins your immune system. That cold caused a cough which caused me to crack a rib and when I took NSAIDs for the pain the hives got worse, like face and lip swellingly worse! I then went to an allergist who recommended Zyrtec which I took and it turned out that a small dose would control it. Like one a day and then one every other day, eventually one a week and then the hives just disappeared as quick as they came. I still freak if I see something on my skin resembling one now though cos I'm so afraid they'll come back.
Through going to allergists, accupuncturists etc to solve it, I found no allergies but I did discover that I have a possible predisposition for an autoimmune disease so I was just as advised to work at staying as healthy as possible.
So a really long way of saying that it can be really hard if not impossible to get to the bottom of hives but think about your general health and stress levels. I really sympathize as I know it is the worst! Take care of yourself!

I got mine from anxiety. I had like 2 months straight of hives. I seriously thought it was bed bugs or something in my carpet but I have professionals come check 5 times. Anyways they went away on their own after 2 miserable months.

I get hives from stress all over my chest. I also got them one time from what my doctor thought was likely a one time reaction to strawberries. It's apparently not all that uncommon. It's never happened again!

I get them from eating sugars. Sucks so much. This just started this year a few months ago.

The unfortunate thing about hives is that for a lot of people the cause is unexplainable. I had a friend who battled hives for almost a year and took every medical test under the sun. They stopped on their own and she never knew why she had them.

I get them from most laundry detergents and also if it's too hot while I'm sleeping. They aren't any fun, but usually go away if I change back to my only "safe" detergent or take a super cold bath.

I get them all the time. I'll have days where every night before bed I'll get hives all over my body, and then the next morning they are mostly gone... only to appear again at night. This will go on for 3-4 nights, and then not happen again for months. Completely baffling to me!

About the zyrtec and benadryl... I was controlling them with zyrtec too the first go round, and I started reading a ton of things about it online. Your body can become dependent on zyrtec, so when I completely stopped taking zyrtec my body's hives actually became WORSE before it became better. There were two weeks after I stopped taking zyrtec where I was MISERABLE. Kind of like going into drug withdrawal. So you might want to do your own research and not get too dependent on those!

Yes!! I think energy drinks triggered something in my system years ago, so I completely cut those out. Figuring out the cause is really really hard. I went to several specialists and even tried acupuncture to control them. They eventually went away/went into remission. Then I got a really bad flare up after being pregnant with Jaren. Discovered I developed a gluten allergy - cutting that out has gotten everything under control.

I thought that I had a bad case of eczema, but the pharmacist told me it was a bad case of hives. Since it can be hard to detect the cause, I haven't been to an allergist or dermatologist yet and have been treating it with benadryl and zyrtec.

I haven't changed anything about my products or diet, so I'm not sure what the cause could be. They spread across my entire body from my head to my ankles and are so itchy!

Have you ever had hives? Were you able to get rid of them?
