I do my best to clean up during every nap the kids take - whether it's fixing the couch cushions and straightening/picking up toys in the living room, washing bottles and a few dishes, or straightening up my office/every day dumping ground. I usually only succeed in getting one room done a day. But with new house and two babies, what do you expect? :)

My house is usually somewhere between "going" and "gone." it's not worth it for me to keep things tidy because DH just blows through and creates a mess right away -- so I don't usually waste my time. I'm not a neat freak so I can tolerate some level of mess, and it generally reaches a sort of homeostasis where it's messy but doesn't really get worse. I try to make sure nothing is truly dirty but otherwise I've kind of given up caring on a day-to-day basis.

Not really, I don't like clutter and DH can't stand it. Our place is usually very tidy but sometimes I'll go for over a week without vacuuming. That's my idea of letting the house go!

Yes. I then get irritated and go on a massive cleaning spree, but then get complacent and let it build back up. My parent's house is cluttered, so it's what I'm used to. My husband came from a house that was cleaned pretty much every day, so while he likes a clean house, he doesn't usually do anything about it (his mom cleaned it every day).

However, I cannot stand a dirty bathroom.

Yes! I never realized that I was kinda messy until DH was out of town one weekend and I had no one else to blame for the messes - haha. I try to get the basics done everyday, but I'm really bad about the deep cleaning :(

All. The. Time. I like it when it's clean and all, but I'm starting to think I'm a slob. I just don't have the energy or desire to clean all the time... and we don't even have a LO yet! I usually let things go a few days until it bothers me too much and I clean up. It's not *that* bad, I'd only be a little embarrassed if someone stopped by unannounced. =) But with 30 minutes notice, it could probably be spotless.

I can, but only because if I didn't I would go nuclear on DH. He's just a slob. When I lived alone I would clean every weekend but with him, I clean and he does nothing to help keep it clean. It's frustrating because I LOVE a clean house. What's a girl to do?

@BabyBoecksMom: ha! This is us. I've given up on tidying throughout the day. It's pointless! So I usually tidy up after she goes to bed. I know it's stressful for him to come home to a untidy home so I try to blitz that in between cooking dinner.
He usually tidies up in the mornings.

Just Monday he spent ALL day cleaning the house from top to bottom. It really needed it!

When things are crazy, we will. But then it gets to a point where we both just can't stand it, and then we will clean. The hard part is that it makes the clean up more difficult! We definitely let the house go a lot recently, but we were too tired/stressed to care. We are now still playing catch up! I don't see how it could have been otherwise, though, so I'm trying not to stress about it.

@mediagirl: I can... DH, not to so much. Before having a kid, I could never let the house go. But after having her, I'm so exhausted by the time I get home that I would rather sleep than clean. Plus, the "W tornado" comes around right after I clean anyway, so what's the point? lol

Yes. I'm a terrible housekeeper. I'm great at cooking and as long as I'm feeling OK, pretty good about the grocery shopping and stuff.. but the cleaning and tidying part is not my strong suit. At all.

@Lindsay05: Same thing happens to me-- I clean and 5 minutes later it's a mess. But this happens when I'm home alone so I know it must be me!

Yes and no. We always do the dishes and clean up the kitchen but the rest of the house is a mess. I can't keep the clutter at bay! I clean it all up and within a day there is more clutter and stuff piling up. Then after a few weeks, I go around collecting things and putting it away only for it to get messy again in a few days. I need to work on organizing.

I hate to do it, but yes it happens quite often. Especially right now with pregnancy fatigue/sickness. When I do clean up, i swear, I turn around for 3 seconds and its like a tornado goes through. Between a husband and a child, it gets disasterous.

My goodness, yes! Its part of my regular cycle: I go nuts cleaning one day, I am then a Nazi about picking up and keeping things tidy, until I get frustrated feeling like I am fighting a losing battle, nagging the hubs to PICK UP AFTER HIMSELF. Then I let it go....for several days before I finally get a chance to clean like crazy again. I wish i could be more like you....moderate and steady. I am one extreme or the other!

Yep... I have no problem, but it's actually a point of contention with me and DH. I'm a terrible housekeeper, and he has expectations of a house kept like his mother. I say if he sees something that needs to be done, just do it. And I'm definitely working on my habits.

It's really hard for me to do what I consider let my house go. To me, a clean house is a tidy house. That means, things are picked up, dishes are in the dishwasher or clean and drying on the sink, the floor is swept.

The past two days I have been exhausted and miserable from a cold. I let the dishes go one day but couldn't stand to see them sitting in the sink yet one more day. I put the baby to bed, went downstairs, did the dishes and cleaned up some clutter before I went to bed at .... 7:59pm.

My husband has been sick, too and he is just helpless when he is sick so, I got nothing out of him.

Are you able to let your house "go" for a few days if you need to?
