I lower the waist and usually a side strap, pull out a boob and jiggle us both about a bit to get it in his mouth. Sometimes I have to lean him back a bit to latch. It is a bit awkward but once he is on, it is easy. I have had a few older ladies totally baffled by it and shriek in surprise "oh! You're breastfeeding!" Yes. Now shhhh! I have to loosen the shoulder straps a lot so I can move DS to one side. We do it lots, costco.. hiking.. You can't tell at all. I just move the carrier so it's down low on my hips, loosen the strap on one side and kinda scoot her over towards a hip a bit more. Once I figured it out, it was easy, but took some time playing around with it. I did it more often with my first daughter than my second, mostly as I'm usually tandem wearing and that would just never work haha. It is as others describe- lower a strap shimmy boob out have her latch. But I find doing so leads to cracked nipples. Probably due to an awkward latch.
