I don't, unless it's through my work account. Someone hacked an account and recently used my email on her communication with men through a foreign dating agency. I kept getting random emails from strange men. Finally, the girl whose account was hacked emailed me to call me out. I'm like nope, wrong girl! No idea what happened there.

Yeah, it depends on the content. I have a verrry common name and someone signed up for a Twitter account with my email :shocked:

I swear she was in middle school and her DMs and messages were mind-numbing. I created an account just to send her a message, but nothing ever happened, so after a while, I just reset her password, tweeted about using her own email address on her next account and autodirected all emails with her username to spam.

If it is a common problem, I'd set up an autoreply about not having the right email (with just a little snark) and delete or archive the messages.

@Cole: I also get emails for a woman who lives in Wisconsin (also not my state). I don't know what either of their real email addresses are, otherwise I would just pass them along.

Ugh, a woman has the same name as me and therefore almost the same email except she omitted one vowel from her last name in the email so as I'm sure you can imagine, everyone assumes it's a mistake and sends it to me instead. I've received plane and train tickets, job offers, emails telling her people have died or had babies etc. If it's important looking I forward them, if it's one person sending stuff over and over I email them directly- I really want to say "are you a moron? Read the email address again!" But so far I have refrained. I delete a lot too because at some point it's just her problem.

This doesn't happen with my email, but dh often gets wrong emails for someone with a similar name-- he once got a confirmation email from an airline about a flight for the other person!

It depends. There is a woman whose emails I've been getting every so often for years now, and I tend to always redirect hers or at least forward them to her. She is friendly and has responded to me when I've emailed her so I feel like I "know" her. Her own father even sent an amazon gift card to me once! They were very grateful when I sent it along instead of using it. Lol.

There are a couple other people whose emails I get as well, but they have never responded when I've tried to contact them, so these days I just delete their emails.

Because of the context of the emails you're getting, I'd respond and let her know she's got the wrong person. That way she can contact the actual mom and not be all annoyed she's not getting any response! I mean I feel like it's an honest mistake ...

I've responded before if it seems like something the actual intended recipient would want to know about. Apparently there was a group of birth workers planning a retreat and I was getting the emails instead of another person with my name who was also a doula, so I responded to let them know. I didn't want the actual intended recipient to miss out!

My husband gets loads of emails in French regarding the French prison system. He never writes back, even though I think he should! My name/email is not common enough for any mistaken emails.

If it had to do with someone's child, I probably would.

Apparently there is a tv or movie producer with a name very similar to mine and I get her emails alllll the time with call sheets, payment forms, etc. At one point she seemed to be hiring models who sent me photos. I don't typically respond because it's all different people, I just delete from the subject line.

I've replied before. I constantly get emails for some woman in ohio, I get her PTA stuff, Band equipment, dentist reminders etc. I once got legal documents for a house sale. I replied a few times and once to someone who seemed to be her husband.. but it continues.. now it's just spam and I ignore it. I'm not sure how she got her email address wrong sooo many times!

I typically don't get these, but I would respond one more time with a change in the Subject line. Perhaps add "ACTION REQUIRED" or "RESPONSE REQUESTED." Then, I would type out my email address in the body, which may help the sender clearly review the two emails.

@erinbaderin: lol, that's a little creepy!

@MrsSCB: too funny!

It depends what it is. I once got several emails about planning a bachelorette party. I didn't want the other woman to miss out so I replied and said the wrong address and they replied "no we don't". I was at a loss for how to handle that.

@mrsrain: this is what I do too. Someone signed me up at an expensive, big-name gym multiple times (in multiple cities) and I was getting personal emails from this gym inquiring about my workout and when I wanted to set up personal training sessions. I responded to them a few times telling them they had the wrong person and requesting that they remove me from the email list. I finally just flagged it to spam.

There is a woman with a really similar email to mine (same first and last name but my name is with an e and she is an I). I've gotten a bunch of emails from her, including students from her class and PTA stuff. I only responded when I got a note from her daughter's school nurse about a cough that needed a doctor- seemed important that she send it to the right woman!

In college, some friends and I were were planning a weekend at one friend's family farm nearby. No one noticed as we were emailing back and forth that DH's email was wrong (it's his name plus numbers, and the numbers were left off). After a few emails we got a hilarious reply from a guy saying he would love to light some bonfires and "sup beers" with us but "alas" he lives in Scotland. It was awesome.

I respond sometimes. If she keeps emailing it might be that her email is defaulting to yours since she made the mistake once. She should still be more vigilant though. Did she respond when you emailed back?

I keep getting emails from a first grade teacher in another state. The first couple of times I tried replying nicely that she had the wrong email address. Today I got 3 emails from her! Apparently somewhere there's a woman with a name very similar to mine whose little boy keeps getting into trouble. At this point I'm really irritated and if I were this child's mom and found out that someone else had been getting repeated emails about my child's behavior I would be livid! I also feel very tempted to point out the grammatical mistakes in her emails. Would you ignore the emails? Let your snark flag fly? Continue to be polite?

Sometimes I wonder who gets emails that are meant for me!
