Yesterday I read "A Bit Lost" 10 times in a row. Literally 10 times. He would get so angry if I tried to put it down! I think I've memorized it by now.

I don't have any experience with my own LO yet, but my parents used to take away my books as my punishment. I don't know how early it started, but it went all the way through Elementary School! It was the only thing that had an impact on me, haha

We used to say "last one..." And lately we hardly read to him anymore. :\ It's terrible... but it's so hard juggling with two. That shouldn't be an excuse but I'm just so exhausted by the time bed time rolls around... My oldest does bring a ton of books outside and "reads" for a good amount of time. He really enjoys it and this is a good reminder that we should resume reading again. It's such a great thing. But you are not alone when it comes to this... :)

2 books at bedtime

During the day I also limit - after about 10 books its time to move on to another activity!

We have a limit and then we move on. I usually try to get in some abridged version of the book at least once because its so sweet that he asks but he is like your LO and it's constant so sometimes I say not now and distract him with something else.

My LO is only 10 weeks so I don't have any personal experience. However, I am a former early childhood teacher. In my classroom I had a listening center with books on tape/CD. My students loved listening to the books over and over and following along as they pointed the words.

Also, I once volunteered at a bilingual school and my job was to record myself reading various children's books on tape in English for students to use. How fun would it be to record your own voice reading LO's favorite stories to listen to whenever she wants?

@Rubies: @Andrea: We don't do bedtime books anymore because we're all read-out by the time we have to put her to bed!

Two nights ago i was dying on the couch from a stomach virus i caught from LO and she wanted me to read to her over and over. "Umma is ow ow" was not an acceptable answer.

We have a 2x limit during bedtime. But outside of that, I read to DD as much as she wants. However, if I'm tired of reading I'll redirect her attention to something else like, "Oh, I forgot, can you bring me ___ from your cubby?" And then she'll forget about her book for a while. But I do end up feeling guilty so after a bit of a break, I'll read to her again.

Yes. I love reading and I'm glad Chloe likes books, too. But hVe you ever stayed up all night just to finish a book? It's hard to put down a great read!

Books are wonderful but they can also be stimulating. So yes, we limit our bedtime and nap time books!

Yes...even with books there has to be a limit for me!

In DS's preschool, another mom once was amazed that I got DS to bed by 7:30 every night. She was saying how her son just loves books and will stay up until 9:30 just asking to read book after book with her. He prolonged bedtime for 2 hours by doing that.

It is OK to limit books, too. :)

I feel so guilty about this! LO loves being read to, and I love reading so I'm thrilled that she's developing a love of books. But... I'm a SAHM and there are days when she wants to be read to All. Day. Long. I have to tell her we'll read again later after a few or I wouldn't be able to get anything done. It always makes me feel awful, though!

Yes, we have a 2-3 book max rule for bedtime. It depends on the length of the books. If it's especially long, she may only get one.

LO loves books. The problem is, we never say no. The only way i can stop reading is if i say, "Okay, this is the last book". But from the time we get home (5ish) until it's time to go to bed (7:45), we'll have read 10 books at least 2-3 times. No exaggeration, i'm sure i'm underestimating some days!

Sometimes i'll tell her she has to wait until i'm done doing the dishes. But i'll wash the dishes for 5 minutes, then take a reading break, then go back to doing the dishes.

I'll say no to other things, but i feel like this is one area where i feel bad if i say no. Reading is what we do as a family after dinner. But i'd rather prevent crying fits because i tell her i can't read to her right then and there!

Am i the only one? Any suggestions?
