I don't limit fruit. She's always loved it but she also loves lots of other food. She gets fruit with every meal and whatever she doesn't finish gets offered at snack time. We've never had constipation issues and I think the fruit definitely helps with that. We also don't do juice very often so i'm ok with fruit.

@daniellemybelle: I singled bananas, but really no high sugar fruits before bed unless I want more of an ordeal at bedtime. She likes bananas a lot, but if she ate grapes and pineapples as much I wouldn't give those to her either before bed.

No, but I haven't really had to because she doesn't eat a ton of anything! She loves bananas, and she's come close to finishing an entire one, but she's never finished one then asked for another. Same with other fruit. I don't think I'd limit her if she did, though.

No, never. Often DS will eat fruit as a snack after daycare and before dinner. He's a great eater and although fruit has a lot of natural sugars I think it's really healthy and a good alternative to lots of other snack items.

Yes we have. DD LOVES fruit and she loves pineapples and strawberries the most. They're a little too acidic for her and give her bad diaper rash or upset stomach when she eats too much.

No, we don't really limit it. Kid eats like 2-3 bananas a day, plus a mandarin orange and fruit yogurt. At meals though I try to offer protein or veggies first. Although I messed up last weekend when were having lunch out - I ordered him salmon and a side of fruit and he usually LOVES fish but it was hot and I had to cut it up, so I gave him the fruit first and then he wanted nothing to do with the salmon :bummed: .

Nope. We only eat plants, so she can eat whatever she wants. We also give her all of her food at once. I realized we were doing the protein & veggies first, and using fruit like a reward. Something about it didn't seem right (for us), so we just let her have free reign with her plate. For us, it's about the big picture for the day ... kids need a lot of calories (and fruit is a big piece).

Yep. I have to be careful not to feed LO within 1-2 hours of meals (even 2 apple slices will cut down significantly on dinner intake). So I'm not as concerned about the sugars as I am about him eating more protein, etc. But generally, if he asks for fruit between meals and I don't think think it will ruin the next one, he gets it. Better than crackers.

Nope. What @sarac: said. I just have to think , I am a teacher and have met my fair share of obese children and not one of them got that way by overeating fruit. I see what they eat. There are too many other things to worry about than my kid eating too much fruit. :) however, I make sure to provide him a balanced diet and so far he's a good eater!

@looch: I don't disagree. It's better to eat an apple than a couple teaspoons of sugar because they have additional nutrients, so the calories aren't "empty," but you still need to eat them in moderation!

I'm another who tries to give fruit to LO as dessert, but if she hasn't eaten much of her main meal, I'll still let her have however much she wants. She's been pretty good about eating reasonable portions so far so I haven't felt the need to limit her.

When I've done WW to lose weight, fruits and veggies are zero points because they are good for you and you can eat as much of them as you want.

I definitely don't worry about the amount of natural sugars in fruit. I do however want my kids to eat a variety of foods so if they are only wanting fruit I make sure to mix it up. I'd do the same thing if they were wanting too much of any other food group.

Not for her, unless I worry she'll get diarrhea, but I account for the carbs myself and will reduce my fruit intake because too much can inhibit fat loss when im in the zone. I could eat a whole cantaloupe and that's definitely not ideal ;)

No. Yes, an apple does have a good bit of sugar, but to eat an unhealthy amount, you'd need to eat more apples than your stomach would hold. That's why juice is not good (all the filling bulk is removed but the sugar remains), but whole fruit is. My daughter eats 4-7 servings of fruit daily, and that's absolutely fine by me. I make sure that she eats a lot of protein as well, at least one serving of veggies, and a bit of healthy fat. But so long as she's meeting those requirements? She can literally eat fruit until she's blue in the face.

I only say no if she's clearly hungry and just asking for fruit when she needs some protein. Or if I'm literally putting dinner on the table. But even then, she'll often ask for a carrot, which she'll eat with dinner.

I don't limit it, but I always give it last so that she will eat protein & veggies. Like everyone else, if I gave her fruit with her meals, she would only eat that and reject everything else.

I also try to give her fruits that are less sweet like grape tomatoes which are technically fruit but I feel like they almost count as a veggie :)
