Haven't had to do that yet, but if someone is hurting or attempting to hurt my LO, I'd say something. I don';t care if their parents get mad, maybe if they said something themselves I wouldn't have to.

I try not to, but a lot of times I REALLY wish I could!!!!!!! And if a kid is pushing Wagon Jr. down or something like that, something that actually affects us, I try to just gently explain "excuse me, please don't do that" and I try to bring it to the parents' attention.

Yep. Even before I got pregnant, especially if I was in the gym and a child came in unsupervised. Usually it is just a firm *hands are not for hitting/pushing* or *please don't touch that, it's not yours* or something along those lines.

In that case, and I am not right there, I would just tend to my LO. But yes, I do scold other kids. My neighbor came over with her son, and he kept doing bad things, and I kept scolding him while she was right there doing nothing. Especially when it came to doing mean things to my kids!

Yes, I'd intervene. If the kids were the same age, then no, but if one is older, they likely can't work it out.

I personally believe in the village approach to raising children, so I would for sure try to explain to the aggressor what's not okay to do. Then, I'd speak to the parent.

I would. 3 year olds understand that's wrong so if no one else is teaching him, might as will!
I typically don't like confrontation with other parents but I would probably give the mom a dirty look if she saw and didn't say anything. If she didn't see, I'd just walk away with my daughter so it wouldn't happen again.

Yes, but not because of my little guy, mostly because kids come running up to touch our dog when we walk at the park. I scold them to stop and not touch a strange dog without asking. Fortunately it is rare, most of the time they ask first.

I would have told the child "no" the first time it happened. After that, I would probably find the librarian and explain what happened and let them know that this kid is running around unsupervised.

If the parent is there and doing something about it I will leave it alone but if the parent doesn't seem to be doing anything I will certainly say something to the child.

I would probably tell the parent too. No way another kid is going to do that to my babe- that's so unfair!

@brownie: yeah he did come by a few times, though he had an eye for when I was talking, he made eye contact with me a few times to see if I was watching. I was having a stare down with a 3 year old I guess.

@Maysprout: That is a little harder. The next time he came by (it sounds like he did it a few times) I would tell him that he needs to keep his hands to himself. I have spent a long time teaching 3-5 year olds gymnastics and crossfit so I don't have many qualms about those kinds of things. I also would have probably told the parent or the librarian.

@brownie: He would push her then walk away. So that's why it felt awkward to go track him down to scold him.

If they were literally pushing my kid around, yes, I would scold them and tell the parents. Getting told off by a stranger could be more effective than if it came from mom and dad. There's never an age where it's OK to push and hit.

We were at the library today and one little boy who looked to be around 3 kept pushing down my daughter, who's 11 months. He just would just find her and shove her it wasn't that she was getting in his way.

When I was standing right next to her I told him 'No that's not nice' but another time I was talking to another mommy when it happened and felt weird going over to scold him. Little girl wasn't hurt or anything and she just picked herself up. The mom was reading and I don't know if she didn't see or didn't care. But he ended up attempting to push her down 4 different times.

So do you go over and scold the kid or tattle tale to the mom or just tend to your own LO?
