Wow you have a great schedule! I wish I had an extra day off for stuff. I HATE using Staurday for everything.

I'm a SAHM so there are no days off from LO. I get a couple of hours here and there to do things like grocery shop. We like going out to eat with her, but once every couple of weeks we'll have one of our parents babysit so we can have some "us" time.

My LO's are older so any day during a normal week that I'm not working my oldest would be in school so I don't have guilt for having a day without her. But, with the youngest, she's only in preschool which is only Mon-Thursday from 8am to 2pm. So, since I normally work til 7pm everyday, If I don't go into work and I don't go get her as soon as school is over, I start to feel bad.
I never leave them at daycare longer than like an hour or so because I can't rationalize it since I hardly ever have that much extra time in the evenings with them.
But, the time they are in school, I take full advantage of those rare days off!

@tina: i think about that, too, but i think my mom would drive me nuts. so as much as it sucks to not have help, i guess i will live with it and pay for daycare! enjoy your day!!!!

@Andrea: ohhh good point! I forget about family help... since we have none. Haha. Fingers crossed my parents retire and move back here... I will seriously buy my mom a new car if they do and she helps with childcare!! It would be so much cheaper than actual childcare! Haha.

Oh and I'm REALLY looking forward to going into the city for lunch on Monday! :) Rob Sr. also needs a haircut. Haha.

@tina: i think the same thing! but you know what about those part-time kids, i think they also have family to watch on the other days to save $$. so some people might work full-time.

i know one dad is a fireman so that makes sense that he can do an early pick up since he probably works at night. so there is always some kind of explanation i guess! as for the suit and tie dudes....i am not sure ... unless they start work really early.

@Andrea: haha I also feel guilty when I look at the class schedule-- I think RJ is only one of two kids who goes 5 full days. BUT because the space in our school is so limited, I think most of the kids are part time (some are as little as 2 or 3 half days!) and I think to myself, what kind of jobs do these parents have?? Then I realize, oh they probably do not work and are putting their kids in school for the social / educational aspect a few mornings a week. I think we're one of the only ones who actually uses our school as a daycare while both parents work.

I also look at moms and dads who are obviously coming home from work, picking up their kids at like 4:45pm sometimes when we're picking him up early-- what kind of job where you wear a tie can you leave at 4:30pm?? Rob Sr. and I work 8:15-4:15 and we're always RACING home so RJ's not the last kid to be picked up (school closes at 5:45pm) and I swear, everyone's always gone by 5:20pm.

The last one was MLK day. DH and I both didn't have to work and sent the LO to daycare. We went into the city and had a nice sushi lunch!! I did feel a little bit guilty, especially when I didn't see a lot of other kids at daycare. So their parents must keep them home. Errr -- why?? Enjoy that ONE DAY!! LOL.

that's awesome. take advantage of that "day off"! I really wish i had something similar on a regular basis. I used to when we had only one child and a live-in nanny... It's true, running errands with an infant is much easier than with a toddler!

I work 4 days a week, so Mondays are a true day off for me-- although I usually end up expending more energy on Mondays than while at work because I dial in to work a few times between my weekly errands-- Costco, grocery store, post office, dry cleaners, any other miscellaneous shopping like Babies R Us or birthday gifts, and of course catching up on housework like laundry or dishes. I don't know what I would do without Mondays-- they allow my other weeknights to be totally free (all we do is dinner, dishes, and pack RJ's lunch for the next day) and weekends for family activities and hanging out with friends.

This Monday Rob Sr. is also taking the day off, and we are going to spend the day doing errands, hanging out, and going to lunch! RJ will be at school. I sometimes feel like a delinquent mom, bringing RJ to school instead of taking him with me for errands or taking him with us on days off like Monday, but things just take way too much time with a toddler around. Running errands with him as an infant was much easier, but these days even just getting him to get into the car easily takes 10 minutes sometimes! And of course eating out with him can be really rough.

Do you ever take time off from both work AND parenting? I feel truly spoiled by my Mondays. And I'm looking forward to this Monday with Rob Sr. even more than a vacation, trip, or gift!
