She really is, though. She threw everything away while I was away in college (no warning, no chance to save anything). She is a very unattached person, even to her kids! (Not just things.) We went through it together a year or so post-college and it was fun reminiscing over things and laughing at stuff I'd created. Then we purged it down to 1 storage bins worth of the most important stuff. My dad saved a few dolls and all of my Legos and my LOs have both now, and that's plenty. I thought my childhood books had been saved, but I guess the were donated. She has huge amounts of stuff. Some of it is cool, but I'm sure there are boxes and boxes of complete junk. They have everything. When LO was born they produced the log of feeding & soiled diapers from my first 6 weeks of life. My dad has a huge amount of my childhood stuff in a storage locker somewhere. I don't have a ton of storage where I live now, and my family is trying to downsize, so they want me to take all the stuff they kept for me. It's way too much stuff! There are boxes and boxes of toys, school stuff (not just art, but tests and essays I wrote), and lots of clothes. I think I have one box of stuff that survived a major purge I undertook on my own room. I know it has my Cabbage Patch dolls and a few scrapbooks I had made. I'd say she has maybe 2 boxes of my stuff from when I was growing up--special dolls, special clothes. The clothes are awesome. I really love dressing LO in clothes I wore (because it's only a few outfits), but we don't reallllly have space for the toys and dolls, so it's kind of annoying when she brings that stuff to our house--we don't have space! They are also great photographers- so I have lots of beautiful albums. Sadly M is estranged from his Dad and he keeps his childhood possessions hostage :( so I wish we had more of his stuff. They only saved a couple of things from my childhood, but sometimes I wish they had saved just a little bit more. They gave away things like the baby blanket that my grandmother made for me that I wish they had kept. DH's parents, on the other hand, are borderline hoarders, and saved everything. Sometimes this is nice, but most of the time it is just annoying. They talk about us taking all of DH's old toys when we have a LO, and when we tell them that we will probably donate most of them they act like we are awful people. I think there is a happy medium between my parents and DH's. Most of the time I am glad my parents don't keep a ton of stuff, but sometimes I wished that had kept some of the more sentimental items.
