Yes! My 1 year old is making all kinds of babbling noises and she looks at me like I should understand her. I wish I did!

@banana: too funny! I do think my kids understand each other better than I do too!

@pastemoo: how sweet! Mine just started doing what I think is the sign for milk...but we never did any signing, so now I have to figure out what the heck it means for him!

It's very gratifying when I finally put two and two together and figure a phrase out. Lately she's been saying "wone-meet". It took about a week to figure out that she was saying "one minute" (our way of saying be patient and her way of saying I'll be patient).

Totally at that stage right now. After almost 2 weeks straight, I just figured out today that 'die' means 'star'. I am still not really sure how she ended up with that?!?! .but just relieved to have figured it out and to not feel so alarmed when she is yelling DIE!

Definitely. Also I really wonder what he's thinking. Especially if DW and I are being very silly, or making funny faces or noises, and he gives us a "oh dear, oh dear" look. You can almost tell that he is thinking, "how did I end up with this lot for parents?"

@MerryC: Ah! Mat Moom! My son says that one, too.
He makes up signs, too. It is just the heart-warming, cute facey-est splendor of parenthood!

@skibobrown: LOL! Love it!
@banana: :) My son's blankie is called CAH! wa wa wa wa wa wa wa! With at least 4 wa's.

Yup! My DD says the most random things sometimes and I have a hard time figuring out what she's trying to tell me. But interestingly, her older brother is able to translate. For a whole week, she kept screaming "PEECHOO PEECHOO!" every morning before dropping her off at daycare. And we had NO idea what she was talking about!

Choo choo? No! Peepee? No! Peach juice? No!!!

Finally this morning, my son says "She wants her blankie!" Sure enough, I handed her the blankie and she was smiling. HUH??? How does "peechoo" = blankie and how did my son figure that one out?

Kids are so mysterious to me sometimes. haha

I've gotten pretty good at deciphering what LO is trying to say, but I feel like I am a translator for others!

All the time! My daughter still does a ton of jargon babble where she literally holds entire conversations of nonsense words. Sometimes I think she's talking about her daddy b/c she'll point outside at where he car is usually parked and then start with some really animated talking.

For a few weeks recently DD kept using the phrase "gah goo go!" over and over again. I finally deciphered it. It's cock -a-doodle-doo! -- the noise that a rooster makes!

Yes! They speak full sentences/conversations in babble and I really wish I knew!

DD says 'mat-moom' and 'gung-gong' all the time. I don't think they are objects, maybe actions?

I was able to figure out DS recently in that 'mama' means I want a snuggle and 'maat' means mom feed me now :)

I can't wait for this!! I love it when they're learning how to talk <3 I spend a lot of time around my nephew, and was really good at understanding him, but there were always times when he would be trying to tell me something, and I would just look at him like 'sorry dude, I got nothing'.

I have more questions than answers these days!

Lately he says "Bachiboop!" and "na' noo" over and over again. It cracks me up but I have no clue what he wants.

Do you ever wonder what your toddler is saying? What are some favorite "words" lately?
