I worry about this too and we don't even have kids yet. I have heard good things about the book Silver Spoon Kids, which is on my "to read" list.

I worry about this a fair deal. I try to instill the immigrant mentality that my parents instilled in me, but it's harder than I could imagine, especially considering the different SES.

hmmm, I don't know if my kids will have an easier life than me. Maybe a bit? We grew up without a ton of money (and so did Mr SH) and I always swore that I would get a great career so that I could buy my kids all sorts of things. Now that I'm an adult, I better understand the choices my parents made and find that we've chosen a path that values time spent together and happiness over making lots of money.

That said, I remember when I was planning out Toddler Girl's nursery and feeling good about not buying any new furniture, my mom said how nice it was that I could afford to buy whatever pretty fabric I wanted for the room. It's all perspective, I guess.

I do... I think all parents want to instill good values but my kids have a much easier life than I did growing up.

Uh, definitely. I'm trying hard not to spoil her with gadgets and toys and stuff like that.

I'm sure my parents said the same about me! :) I know for a fact my grandmother did.

I literally shake my head in amazement on a regular basis at how good our kids have it!

I worry sooo much that their lives are too easy. I want to toughen the kids up... maybe I will send them to live with my parents for a summer. They live in the Philippines, and between the humid summers and the lack of a/c, the kids would be shocked into toughness I bet!

That said, we work hard to keep the kids from getting spoiled and lazy. Still though, in today's culture, it's hard to raise truly un-spoiled children. Hopefully not impossible though!
