I was 32 when I had my first and 34 with the second. I'm a bit older than most of my American friends were when they started having kids (most of them were in their late 20s) but younger or the same age as most of my Aussie and English friends. I think it is perfect for me. I will always be 20 on the inside and still feel like a young mom but only in a good way. I am 30 and most friends are not even married yet and definitely do not have children. None of my close friends have kids yet and DH and I are already thinking about baby #2. I had LO (only 8 months ago) when I was 25. The play date group I am in also makes me feel super young. Most of the moms are over 30.. I was 34 when I had LO, at the time we lived in NYC so it was fairly typical but then we moved down south and here I am def older than most of the ftm. It's crazy how much it varies regionally, and also in urban vs. rural areas. If all goes according to plan, we'll have our first child when we are 28 or 29, and I feel like that is skewed a little towards young. Not many of my friends are married yet, so no one is even thinking about kids right now (as far as I know...) besides me and my H. I moved from NYC to Texas, but since I live in the city down here, I don't think the average age has changed as much as I thought it might. I'm in central IL and a LOT of people I went to high school with are on their 2nd (sometimes 3rd) child at this point. Also, my mom had 4 kids by the time she was my age! I'm 30 pregnant with our first and I feel all three, depending on context. Among my local friends, we're the first to get pregnant, and in my prenatal classes I feel like a child compared to other moms. But I work with pregnant women in another neighborhood and they're all late teens, early 20s, so I feel old with them. Likewise with some Catholic circles I know out of town, who all have four kids by mid-20s. But overall, looking at my own life, I'm the right age. We married at 28, we started TTC after about a year and a half of marriage, all seems good. If we'd had a harder time TTC I think I'd feel more frustrated about my age and feel more "behind."
