Definitely unfair. In the last 1.5 years I've been laid off, FIL has been diagnosed with cancer, we miscarried at 8.5 weeks, and now DH's gramma is on her death bed. And we are honest hardworking people. It just sucks.

Oh and as if things weren't already bad enough, a few days a go we hit and killed someone's cat :(

I think everyone's definition of fair and unfair are different, which makes it difficult to even say. I mean, how do you compare someone born into poverty in the slums to someone born into a constitutional monarchy?

My mom told me about million times growing up that Life isn't Fair so that's what I have always believed. You don't always get back what you put in and there are so many factors beyond your control.

I think it purely depends on outlook. If I compare salaries, effort and payoffs, fortunate events, and family stability, then it's definitely UNFAIR.

But if you see things as a sum and not look at individual details, then it's FAIR. For instance, tons of money doesn't always lead to happiness, a lot of people with little money have close, loving families, etc. Plus health is one thing that can deteriorate without notice, which really balances things out.

Basically, I believe that if everyone knew everything about everyone else (what they've gone through, what they'll experience) then all's fair. But we don't, so it seems unfair. And if things don't seem fair now, I have hope that with effort, in a few years, things will turn around.

I don't know. I try not to think about how fair life is and try my best just to use what I have to make it the best life possible. I do think it's pretty unfair when I watch someone who is 36, who brought so much happiness and joy to the people around him die. So many good people go before their time. I just don't understand how that is fair.

I think it's unfair. You see people all the time that are complete aholes and seem to just skate through life without facing the consequences of their actions. But then I guess deep down they know they are jerks and not nice people and have to live with that. So maybe life is fair!

Good question mrbee!

I think life is pretty unfair. At least as much as I have seen of it :) Some people just seem to get everything and fall into great things. Also, it seems that the working middle class gets screwed. When I wasn't working and was pregnant, we couldn't get any help with food or bills or anything because DH "made to much", but we couldn't even pay all of our bills, my parents had to give us money every month so we could get by. Yet I knew a girl that had 4 kids, didn't work because she didn't want to, and the state paid for everything... lower bills, medical, food, etc. It was very frustrating when we were struggling so hard. *end rant!*

Fair = you get out of life what you put into it. If you work hard and are responsible, you get a fair reward for your hard work and responsible ways.

Unfair = you never know when something makes the playing field less than level. A family member might get sick, you might get fired for no reason, etc. And then there's income inequality, where one person has a huge advantage over others because they were born into more fortunate circumstances.

Do you feel like life is basically fair? Is it mostly fair, with occasional horrible unfairness thrown in? Or is it basically unfair?
