I work with special needs and have one of the highest and toughest caseloads. My boss wanted me to take on an additional 10 kids because she knows I could handle it-and I could, but I am also 9 weeks pregnant and will be gone starting at the end of March. I spoke up against it and she did listen which is good.</p> <p>It's only my second year in the district so the fact she listened was huge to me. I've had a decent number of jobs, and most of my bosses have been pretty good, but my direct boss and the one above her at my current job are amazing. They make me feel valued, both in terms of my work but also personally. I wish more workplaces were like this, because I really do believe it's to the employer's benefit. I'd be much more hesitant to leave this job than I have been to leave others in the past. Not in decisions or knowing about decisions or in giving any type of feedback that would be acted upon and not punished for. It's a very top-bottom hierarchy and I see huge rooms for improvement. I'm also the youngest (in age, but have been in the field for awhile) and people do not look to me. E.g. I was trying to explain something at a meeting re: a concept I just read that someone had posed the question about and was basically talked over by people who didn't have the answer. </p> <p>But, I feel as though the guard will change. There's the illusion of "we care about what you have to say."
