When I was born, I doubt anyone but maybe Bill Gates and Steve Jobs thought that by the time I graduated from high school everyone (well, first world, middle class families mostly) would have easy access to computers in their homes, cell phones, laptops for work, etc.</p> <p>So what will happen in LO’s world over the next 20 years and will it be better or worse than the last 20? I have nooooooooooo idea!</p> <p>I know she will have to contend with plenty of things I didn’t have to worry about – like online predators. Those scare me a lot. Technology gives kids access to so much that they are not emotionally ready to handle. Oh, and the skank clothes they make for little girls these days really bug me. My husband and I were just debating this this morning. We think it's worse. For us it's all economical. If things were the way they were back in the 80's, we could afford to live in a better neighborhood, have me stay at home with the baby longer than 3 months and probably have the same lifestyle. The lifestyle I'm okay with. It's the dealing with the fact that prices of everything has gone up but our salaries have not gone up to keep up that bothers us the most.</p> <p>ETA: that being SAID...we are going to do our best to provide the best life possible for us and our family with what we have around us. There are so many factors to think about with this question. It's making my brain hurt. ;)</p> <p>I'm pretty apathetic when it comes to these kinds of issues though. I'm a big believer in "things will work out" and "you take the bad with the good", so I think some things are worse and other things are better. </p> <p>When I think about the state of humanity I always go to the worst possible thing I can think of, which is child molestation. Then I remember that it happened back in the days of the ancient Greeks and Romans too-- and was actually kind of accepted back then. Our quality of life and our health continue to deteriorate while we feed this massive economic machine that tramples so many people into the ground. </p> <p>I don't know how many mental/emotional battles my kids will have to fight against their peers and the media. Progress doesn't always = improvement, unfortunately.
