I guess I just need to get over it. I don't want people thinking I'm an unreasonable parent who tries to dress my LO to flaunt whatever. DH often tells me I care too much what other people think...maybe he's right.

@Mrs. Sketchbook: That's a good one, wish I was a quick thinker!

@scg00387: I live in the Midwest (now)! In Chicago

You just need to move to the Midwest - I'm not sure many outside of Chicago would recognize Burberry (myself included!)

I usually say something like, "oh the grandparents and the aunts, they just can't help themselves!!" In your case I probably would have said, "well, this is from my mother-in-law, so let me give you her number so you can inquire about the adoption!"

I felt like that when I dressed K this morning- but only because I'm NOT a brands person, and her shirt has a big shiny Juicy Couture label on it. But it was a gift and it's super cute- so I got over that quickly.

When I have my kid I don't think I'll care at all. But then again I'm not easily brand-shamed. Most of what I have or wear is relatively cheap because I'm not really a clothes person but I do have a few expensive items and who cares? I'm a grown up and I get to spend my money on what I want to! That may or may not include an overpriced item for my LO every now and then just because I think it's adorable. haha.

Same as @emg86: & @TurtleDoves: Sure, sometimes comments can make me feel a little awkward, but why should I be ashamed of dressing my LO in whatever I choose (whether I bought it or if it was a gift?)

I wouldn't care. I don't put my child in it so people can gawk, I do it because I like it and I like that specific clothing item. I think it is very taboo and awkward for people to comment on the brand that anyone else wears. Weird....

We usually just say thank you when they give her compliments and leave it at that! I don't think it's anyone's business how much we spend on her stuff or if it was gifted or not, so I don't feel like I have to explain myself.

I have a few consignment sale finds that are recognizable. I don't worry too much about it.

@pinkcupcake: Same! I've already told several people who commented that it was a gift, but DH said I should just say thank you and leave it at that.

We just try to proudly wear it and graciously accept the compliments. It always makes me grin that our designer clothes are either handme downs or amazing sales while others must think that we're focused on mini-fashion!

I know what you mean! All of LO's more expensive clothes were gifts, and I feel kind of self conscious when people compliment or mention them. I feel like I need to explain I didn't buy it and it was a gift!

Our friend generously gifted LO a Burberry jacket for her birthday. (Note, I would never spend that much on a jacket for my own LO) She has been wearing it for about a week, and we get so many comments on it that I'm starting to feel weird about having her wear it.

This morning in our lobby, a woman said to her 20-something daughter, "Oh look Lauren, it's the jacket you've been asking for!" And then said to me "Can you adopt my daughter so she can wear designer clothing too?" She was obviously kidding but I just felt awkward. Has anyone else experienced this? I thought most people assumed stuff like that was gifted!
