I've heard girls are easier when they're younger, but more difficult as teenagers. I only have DS right now, but he seems to fit the high energy, rough and tumble boy stereotype. Although, he has a cousin the same age who is perfectly content sitting quietly and playing with his toys for hours on end. I would love for him to have a little sister so I can experience both sexes.

My mom claims that it's hugely different (she also just had one of each) but my brother & I are very very different personalities so I think that has more to do with it.

FWIW, my DD is only 1 & she has more "boy" qualities in comparison to the girls I used to nanny. She's more on the rowdy side.

@erinpye: That's how I feel! Although we just have one of each, so we're not nearly as informed as she is...

A friend of mine was just taking about this today. She has 2 girls and 1 boy and said she can see how people with one of each attribute things to sex, but in having 2 very different girls, and her boy also being his own personality, she realizes a lot of it is just simply that every kid is different. She feels birth order plays larger role than sex.

My daughter is 3 and my son is almost 5... and I honestly haven't noticed any huge differences so far!

True to stereotype, my son has been more rowdy and naughty... but my daughter is also younger, so she may yet become rowdy like her brother. One thing I've noticed though, is that she picks up qualities from her brother. He loves to build with blocks and to do arts & crafts projects, so that's what she loves too. So in that sense, the desire of the younger sibling to copy the older sibling may be evening out any differences so far.

I'm sure there will be more differences over time, as the kids get older and (more) hormones kick in! So far though, I've been surprised at how similar raising a boy and a girl has been.
