O don't like valentine's days for couples (stupid hallmark holiday) but seeing my four year old so flipping excited to hand put his paw patrol valentine's made me now like valentine's day! Both boys got tons of cards and candy but I'm kinda laxed on that stuff and was happy to see them digging through their candy so excited about it and sharing with each other. We might of have candy for breakfast the other day :shocked:<br /> What I don't like: is the major consumption of buying you kids toys, candy. A small box of candy, cool. I don't celebrate it with my husband.</p> <p>But my almost 3yo was super excited to open all of his Valentines when he got home. He got way more candy (from the kids in his class) than I would prefer, and he got pissed when I told him he could only have one item per day. But that's ok. It's just part of being a parent. My mom and R found what was left at the store (a few cards and some stickers/tats) and she wrote her name on them and stuffed them. She absolutely loved it (I was so surprised that she kept going in her own!) and I know we'll do something more next year. But I also told my mom that whatever she found was fine by me, store bought or whatever! She got a range of a couple with stickers/tats to a homemade one that said something cute with a few crayons. No one went crazy and it sounds like the kids had fun! I love holidays like those that are about celebrating with others and doing a couple fun things. I live in a country where holidays like Vday and Halloween (and even Christmas) are way more low key that in North America, and I'm really glad. </p> <p>The kids wore red to my son's daycare on Vday and got a little chocolate heart from the carers, and that was it, all good from my point of view! About 1/3 of her class gave out valentines (well their parents did). They're only 1! She got two kit-kats and a bag of gummies. We let her eat one kit-kat and she rejected the gummies, and then she gave the second kit-kat to me and demanded that I eat it. :heart: It was fine, she had fun looking at/playing with her cards. Part of it is allergy-related and the other part is to promote healthy habits. Yes, Valentine's Day can be annoying with all of the candies/treats, but it really depends on how schools/parents address these holidays. DS was a little shy this past year but we had an amazing time and I'm sure next year will be even better. We only go to trick or treating to a few houses so the amount of candy is definitely manageable. VDay was pretty much a non-issue. DS's daycare doesn't allow us to do valentines for the class, and the only thing he ended up coming home with was a marshmallow on a lollipop stick from a teacher.</p> <p>It may be that when we get to elementary age and I have 30 valentines to fill out and we get a boat load of candy, I'll feel differently. But at 3, this stuff is no big deal. </p>
